School in Ohio, Work in Georgia, NCLEX ?

Published

My daughter will graduate from NS in December '14 from a school in Ohio. Plans on moving to Georgia to work and be with BF. She's conflicted as to where to take NCLEX. Her school offers a prep class prior to taking NCLEX.

My opinion (like Dad's opinion counts) is to take the NCLEX in Ohio, get a feel for the test and then take it again in Georgia. She says she'll just take it in Georgia because why take it and pay for it twice.

Any thoughts?, advice?, experience?

Thanks in advance

Your daughter is correct. The NCLEX RN is a national standard examination. What this means is that one can attend nursing school in one state, apply for licensure in another state, and actually sit for the examination in any authorized test center any where in theworld. Your daughter will only needs to take it once, and after she passes can apply for licensure in any state that she wishes, providing that she meets the educational requirement of that state. While she will not be required to repeat the NCLEX she will be required to pay any licensing fees.

If she has no intention of practicing in Ohio and knows that she will be moving to Georgia after graduation, it will be cheaper and easier for her to apply for initial licensure in Georgia.
