School nurse perks :)

Early dismissals and snow days!

In previous jobs, of course, there was no getting out for bad weather, and then there was the scramble to get childcare lined up or decide whether my husband or I was taking the day off.

Anyone else have a favorite perk?

Even we p/t school nurses see a few perks! ;) I have insane amounts of support from my fellow SN in my district, they have been great as I've stepped into this field. There is also no "in-fighting" which I have seen (but only a teeny bit) where I work full time. I know I could call any of them and get help for pretty much anything. So I guess what I'm saying is getting to work with other SN is the perk I like the most!!!

Good pay (great hourly pay, just work less hours/year), not working with doctors/providers, snow days, meetings away from the school once per month, getting off work at 3pm, getting LOTS of time off, having almost zero stress at work, being able to lead a 'normal life' and get great sleep! Ah, I never want to go back to the hospital!!! Quality of life is just so much better working for the school. I thought money was more important to me, but after working in the school, I realized quality of life is more important. Plus we have an awesome nursing director.

Additionally,

- children stopping by to let me know they feel better already!

- feeling like you are truly valued simply for there not being so many of you rather than being one tiny overworked cog in a large (hospital) system

- having my own office/desk/chair (vs. always returning to my seat to find it has been taken by someone else in the nursing station musical chairs games lol)

- the chances to teach healthy habits to someone who is not already set in his or her ways

- being home when my husband is home and getting to spend the holidays with our families

I am new at it and it's NOT easy so it's good to reflect on the perks!
