School Nurse Hopeful

Published

I'm new here so please bare with me.

I am in the process of filling out my application pack for a local school nurse job but I am a little stumped by the job-related skills question. As a hospital (emergency and ICU) nurse I want to be sure to direct attention to my ability to care for children and their families in an educational area- hope can I best do this?

Any other pointers for making sure my application/ resume gets the right attention?

One last question- the position is actually in another school district can that be a problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and pointers!!!

Emphasize the ED experience, this will serve you very well. If you are skilled with trachs, tube feeds, etc. list that too. If you have good assessment skills, organizational skills, and able to work independantly, (which I am sure you do :) )list those as special skills. Also list any work you have done with children (for mine I went all the way back to college when I was a camp counselor and listed it!) Good luck!

Purple_Scrubs- Thanks a bunch for your quick reply. I will take your advice to heart and include all those things you listed. As a hopeful- I have been looking on this site for a while and finally joined today and have always found this site very helpful thanks to nurses like you!!!!!

If you think of any other advcie- please let me know.

Hey- Purple and all school nurses- Another quick question. Is there anything special I should add or consider since this job is at a High School? Thanks

Assertiveness :) , ability to communicate effectively with individuals across the lifespan. That's all I can think of right now!

Talk about any experience you have working with adolescents-they are a different breed. Also talk about your good communication skills. You will have to communicate a lot of info to teachers who have no (or worse false) medical knowledge. Good luck! I love my job. :D(I think last week I was posting that everybody at my job was getting on my nerves:lol2:)What a difference a week makes!
