Ok.. I live in Ohio. I am wondering what the difference is between the school nurse licensure ( which I am not going to get) and the Nation School Nurse Certification? I am an RN with a BSN.

I'm in Minnesota and am required to have a license from the Board of Teaching in order to work as a school nurse. Minnesota does not require the certification though.

Most states require the state school nurse certification or license to continue to work as a school nurse. Our state you have one year to get it. The National School Nurse certification basically just show expertise in the field and requires so many years of work as a school nurse and another test. We get a bonus for having ours but it's not required.

In Ohio School Nurse Licensure is obtained through the Ohio Department of Education. It is a 5 year Professional Pupil Services License. To be eligible, one must complete an approved School Nurse Certification program.
To obtain NCSN, one must meet certain educational and experience requirements and pass a national examination. I have my Ohio Licensure and am currently studying for the National Examination which is offered in July.
