SCCC and other Long Island Nursing Schools

Published

Hi All! I am hoping to get some advice on schools in the Long Island Area. Currently I am living in AZ and have just applied to nursing school here. The wait is 1+ year and is strictly based on a lotto system (not academic):o . So I am looking at living with family on LI and attending school in NY. I have completed A/P 201,202 Micro, Phsyc, English 101 and 102 MAT 156 and a BUNCH of other classes. So my question is what schools should I apply in to in the Long Island area and what are my chances of getting accepted in under 1 year? I have a fairly good GPA (about 3.5) and good ACT scores. Also, have I missed the application deadline for Fall of 07? Thanks for all of the help! I am just not familiar with NY nursing programs! Thanks again!

It depends on where on LI you're going to be living. You can commute to a bunch of schools, but some of them may take you forever depending on where you are. As far as schools go- state schools that i can think of are:

Nassau Community college (VERY hard to get into- esp their night program)

SUNY Farmingdale (they have an entrance exam, also)

SUNY Stony Brook (they have an Accelerated BSN program)

SCCC (i don't know anything about them)

then there's private colleges in the area, too. Their tuition is substantially higher. I don't know anything about them or their deadlines, but you can google them:

Molloy

Adelphi

N.Y.I.T

CW Post (i think?)

I'm sure there's more, but that's all that i can think of off the top of my head.

Good luck! HTH!

Long Island University...$500/credit...that was a few years ago!

With your GPA....you got a pretty good chance....but this is New York.....a lot of students are very competitive.

Good luck!

By the way, I tried to enter the nursing school the same way you are trying to get into....but I gave up 7 years ago....and I tried the LPN Program.....Look!....I have just completed my 6 months experience in the ICU as an RN.

First off u have a good GPA, and good ACT so u stand a chance! Whether or not your credits will transfer depends on the college. Ny has nursing programs for associates, bachelors, and masters, but mostly the last 2. Schools in LI are nassua community college, Adelphi University, Long Island University, Stonybrook University, and much more! go to allnursingschools.com its a helpful site! apply 2 as many Schools in not only LI but Queens 2 commute probably wont be so bad. GOod Luck!
