SCC accelerated partnership program questions

U.S.A. Arizona

Hello, I was accepted to the SCC accelerated partnership program yesterday and am very excited. I do have a question though that I hope can be answered. What exactly is the partnership and how does it work. I have read other posts where it says you have to be an existing employee at SHC to be in the program. I am not an employee at SHC. I work at St Joes and have for 5 years. Does this mean I cannot attend their program? This is rather confusing to me. I really hope I can attend it as I have waited 4 semesters to get in. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I added you as a friend, but I have no idea how to send a message? Send me a private message and I can go from there. Looking forward to getting to know you tho!

Hey, I guess we have to post 15 times before you have PM privileges, I hit 15 already, but I can't send you a PM until you get post 15 times as well. :)

I'm in block I, SHC partnership. We have lecture Wed 8-2, Fri 8-4 and clinical on Tues 6-3 (time depends on which location you get). Test and some pre-clinicals are on Mondays. You will go to your clinical location to pick your patient out the day before clinical and write up the first part of your patient care plan, this still takes me all day. Then after your clinical you have to finish your patient care plan which takes several more hours. It is like having a full time job with lots of reading and studying, but doable. Congrats and good luck!!! :yeah:

Ohh cool, thanx for the info! At least it looks like I will still be able to work weekends. Oh and I guess I will have to post a few more times to reach 15 lol.

So far the program hasn't been too bad. I took Block 2 over the summer, and that was pretty brutal. This semester though, our schedule is pretty nice. We only have one day of lecture (only 4 hours) and one 12 hour clinical shift a week.

You should be fine working weekends...just make sure you have time to study and work on your care plans, because they will take you a while at first. Once you get used to them, you'll be able to do them in a few hours. I definitely recommend going to the facility in the morning the day before clinicals to get your information, because then you have the whole day in case the patient has a lot of meds or abnormal labs because those are the things that take the longest.

Hopefully this is helpful! I remember when I found out I got in, I wanted to know every little thing about the program...it's hard to believe that I'm already halfway through it! Everyone says this, and it doesn't seem true, but it will FLY by!

Oh I totally believe it. I worked with a guy who was in the PC accelerated program. He was a pool tech, so he only covered a few shifts here and there, but before I knew it he wasn't a tech anymore and was working on the floor as an RN. All this happened in the time it took me on the waiting list lol. Actually he was done like a year before my time was up on the list, so I know it flies. In the time it took me to get in I was taking classes at ASU finishing up a bachelors degree to hopefully become a physician assistant, but I am gonna go the NP route now. Makes more sense to be able to work in a graduate program then have to take out 100 k in loans to live. looking forward to getting started, glad to see you like the program, and I really like that schedule in block 3!

Congratulations!!! I'm in too and cannot wait to start!!! I had been on the waiting list since August of 2009, started working as a nursing assistant @ SHC in September 2010 & was shocked that I got in, but very excited!!!

:)

WOW, thanks for the info! Good to know they pay for the books as well!:)

Hi again! It is my understanding that they only pay for your tuition & books after 90 days of employment. Their cutoff for the January start is December 14th & my 90 days in on December 13th so I received all of the information from the lady in charge of the reimbursement last week.

Hope that helps :)

In which campus do you work? I work at Osborn

Hello,

I work @ Shea as a nursing assistant & so far I absolutely love it :)

So basically I just have to pay for the classes on my own since I work at ST Joes and not SHC? That isn't a problem at all, just wanted to make sure it didn't affect my being in the program!

Actually I am in the partnership and I am not an employee. I just finished block 1.

This is a great program, I love it and cannot wait to get back in January for block 2!

Good luck to you!
