Scared!!Arrested for shoplifting. Advice?

Published

Hello everyone. To make a long story short I miss scanned a few items at Walmart that equal to be around $50 and I spent $145. I have a court date coming up in May and I am debating on whether or not to get a lawyer. I know I probably need one so the misdemeanor will not go on my record. Has anyone gone through this and what was the outcome?. Thank you!

If I were in your shoes, I would seek out an attorney with knowledge of nursing licensure. TAANA can help there.

I would definitely seek out an attorney who is well versed in criminal AND administrative law to help navigate both the legal and nurse licensure systems.

Hi I'm going threw right now. Mine was 58.17 and my court day is in May too. My lawyer is getting withheld adjudication because I'm not eligible for diversion program due to driver license convictions 16-20 years ago. I'm devastated that's still a conviction in the board of nursing eyes. Hopefully I can get a slap on the wrist let me know your outcome I'm scared

I had something similar happen years ago way before I became a nurse. I never had any issues with anything. It was labeled as Petty Theft and I got withheld adjudication. I always reported it. I had no issues with getting into nursing school, getting approved for testing and my license, and any job that I have ever applied for. You just have to start checking the little box that states that you have an criminal charge.
