Scared of A&P and my books...

Yes A&P is hard, but once I got the general gist of things it all fell into place. I still use my A&P knowledge, and my med term. Pay attention and ask all the questions you need to.

What worked absolutely the best for me, is to TAPE the lectures, take the notes you can, and DON'T FREAK!!!! Go home, listen to the tapes again, and you will find a ton of stuff you missed the first time around.

I also listened to the tapes in the car when I drove a distance, and listened to them again the night before the exams.

Sure, I spent a lot of money on the tapes, but it was worth every penny to get a B!!!!!

Good luck. It isn't as hard as it seems, once you get into it. It is very interesting, and I loved it.

Hi,

I took A&P last semester and I ended up audit it because I couldn't keep up with the readings. My advice to you is to start reading now even if you don't get everything. Don't try to memorize without understanding. Trust me I tried that and it didn't work for me. I would memorize a lot of things 30mn ago and would forget what I've just study 30mn later. And while reading if you see words you don't understand find a dictionnary to find out what it is because those words will never go away. You will see them over and over again. I'm planning to take it again this semester and I've already done a lot of reading. If you'd like we could be study partners. I wish you best of luck.

Right...don't try to memorize anything you don't understand. Its confusing at first, and throughout!, but everything builds on stuff you already learned so just take it day by day.

if your a&p is like mine you will be using those books for 2 semesters. get the rolling back pack, they are worth their weight in gold.

if you think the a&p books are heavy, just wait until you get all those nursing books, you will be thankful that you bought the rolling bag. all 6, yes 6 hard covered nursing books are bigger than my a&p book. each of these books have a 1" soft cover study guide to go along with it. plus care plan, drug books and a few others. lol

i had to make 3 trips to carry them all into my house.

so just remember next year how you thought the a&p books were heavy & scary. :eek:

A&P, I can relate !!!

I have a different instructor this semester for A&P II and my A&P I instructor was very tough and used trickery questions on our tests.

The books are intimidating. I've purchased some of those A&P coloring books, a used "incredibly easy" A&P book from Springhouse, have flash cards ready, and just today purchased a mini tape recorder for the lectures. However, I don't know if I'm allowed to use it but I'm going to try.

Luckily I have A&P lecture/lab all in one day so those are the only books I need to have that day. I've seen many students using the rolling backpacks, they look wonderful.

Some previous posts have given some very good advice, don't try to memorize everything. Most instructors will give you a clue as to what is important and my even pass out hand outs.

An instructor told me once that if you learn everything in class you won't have to study..lol.. ugh !

I had a friend tell me once to read a small portion of what I was studying and then walk away and "just think about it" and it really worked. It actually got to the point where I was dreaming about the test questions and some did appeared on the test!!! Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks everyone for the great tips! I have written them down and will tape it inside my A&P folder! Also "hanginginthere" I am definitely interested in having a study partner! My semester starts 1/22, when does yours start?:)
