SC license temp suspended

Nurses Recovery

Published

I have a bizarre recovery story that I won't bore you with at this time, but ironically through my most active addiction I kept my job as a nurse. I was told I was the best on the unit And worked a lot of overtime. After I took Fmla for treatment at my own accord I came back to a surprise welcome back party from my unit plus a lot of people from other areas like pharmacy and administrators. I was in shock! They all thought I was out for depression. After my chief of nursing did everything she could to help me be the nurse I was before, I just couldn't keep up sober. My brain I guess was still healing my addiction therapist and psychiatrist kept telling me. when my chief of nursing was out on summer vacation HR watched my every move and ended up firing me for forgetting to scan an iv antibiotic even though I wrote a nurse note. That was August, my trigger of not being good enough kicked in I relapsed on cocaine. I wanted to be numb. I told my family, a week later I have oribtal cellulitis and my mom told the doctor I was a cocaine addict which was put on my universal chart. Since the RPP was going to get my records I told my caseworker, they suggested long term treatment which neither me or my family could afford. We also didn't think I needed that at the time. She reported me bc I denied and my license got suspended. I have called, left messages, etc and no return call from the board. I want to know what I need to do to get the temp suspension lifted. Does anyone know???

Each state is different. Odd they suspended you without a hearing of some sort. I can only comment about what happens in Texas.

Sounds like you might need a lawyer. You could even call a board

experienced lawyer and get some advice over the phone and see if you really need one. Each state is different. Take care of yourself , go to AA NA meetings , definately get a sponsor if you don't already have one. Addiction is horrible and it can happen to anyone. Hang in there and God Bless!

I don't know what to tell you. I do know in my state if you don't do the treatment they tell you to do it's bad news as far as your nursing license goes. You really need a lawyer it sounds like but that will probably be no less expensive than rehab. All I can do is wish you luck my fellow nurse and hope you don't lose your ability to practice because you couldn't afford to be in this program. I had insurance and kept my job & I'm totally broke because of all this help I got. I couldn't have done it otherwise
