Hello,
I was wondering who else is also applying for SBVC for falll 2021. I'm super nervous because I am only applying with 35 points so we shall see!
@Whatsyourusername congratulations on your graduation. Could you tell me what to expect the first semester and the things you did that really helped to be successful in the program?
@ofelia Thank you!! Congratulations on getting in!! Okay so one big thing is try not to stress the paperwork side of things that the school is in charge of such as registration. They're very slow on doing the paperwork, a lot of times we wouldn't even be registered until after we already started our classes, the best thing you can do is just not let it get to you and remember that you are in this program and you have a spot so that's not going to affect you. Plus, it's crazy cheap! So at the end of the day, if that's going to be one of the flukes, at least it's not too major.
As for tips on school material, I bought an iPad and downloaded notability, most professors upload their PowerPoints to canvas so I would download them before class and take notes directly on the slides. This made reviewing my slides/recordings a lot smoother. Fundamentals is a decent amount of reading and reviewing notes, once you get to medsurge, start utilizing Youtube! For me, I would do class, review my notes, and then make a list of the topics that would be on the exam then watch a few videos per topic, basically until I kinda knew what to expect so I knew that I grasped the concept. If I still didn't understand something I would thoroughly read that topic, the rest I just skimmed through.
My favorite Youtube channels were registerednurseRN, simple nursing, levelupRN and Armando Hasudungan.
Once you've learned the material, reading practice tests from the book or even test banks are helpful to help you get the hang of how nursing tests are. The crappy thing is a lot of the time most of the answers are right, you need to choose the most correct response that is the safest/most lifesaving.
Make friends, seriously, it's a lot of work and having a good group to help you out and remind you of things makes it so much more doable. Do you guys have a class facebook page set up yet? We had one and it was a great way to communicate with everyone.
@Whatsyourusername thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Will definitely take note of everything you mentioned above. No facebook group yet hopefully once we start we can all get together to create one. Very excited but very nervous at the same time. Thank you again!
