Ado I hope you're feeling better

Hi Stars and NJ22

Yesterday was finally better at work.  Did get yet another new case in the afternoon, but had time to get in done.  In the morning I had time to try out a new recipe for a potluck today.  A peanut butter chocolate bar.  Did not turn out as expected

After work ran to the pharmacy and Trader Joe's, to get replacement dessert for the bars, and wine.  Then exercised.  Decided to skip the microbrewery.

Today will do bird watching as long as the rain holds off for a bit, as predicted.  Then lunch with dad.  In the evening will go to the potluck.  It's held by a couple from the gay group for members of the group, friends, family, and neighbors

Will be a rainy afternoon today, possibly evening too, will get up to about 80

Good morning

Hi Joe, glad you had a good day and hope you enjoy the weekend.

I like dal and have had it many times.  I like spicy and in fact had some Caribbean curry dish with plantains that I made full of spice for dinner last night.  The Indians that the British imported to the Caribbean apparently made an influence on the food culture there.  I made a mistake and used plantains that weren't quite ripe so I didn't like that part of the dish but otherwise it was good.  The stores here sell "Jamaican curry" but my palate after I cook with it doesn't know the difference between regular curry and madras curry.  I used "Sri Lankin curry" that I bought a huge bag of.  Again, can't tell much difference but can see the Jamaican is more light than the Sri Lankin.

Trivia: commercial curry powder that we buy here is a British invention and not Indian.  To the Indians "curry" is more a generic term for a spicy dish.  In fact I've seen on some shows Indians call curry powder it the worst invention ever made in the culinary world.  LOL

Work the last two days was decent.  We have a lot of high acuity patients in our mix so making assignments is tough.  Both days though I had no patient assignment so I was able to do rounding and help out with patient care.  Thankfully we didn't have a lot of movement in and out which is a killer for us.

The question is..... what did I post about yesterday that I accidentally erased? Oh yeah. My new hearing aids! I like the way they fit in my ear canal and don't threaten to pop out when I talk or chew. But I DO have to say, the WORLD is very, very LOUD! She turned the volume down to 80%, but it is still heavy duty, hearing at that level! I am supposed to see if I can get used to it as my ears and brain adjust. Last night I was amazed (and partly aghast!) at the sounds in this house being so amplified..... the refrigerator was so loud I REALLY thought that meant it was on its last legs. The microwave....OY! Running Water, Flushing Toilet isn't that like a famous book title once? I can't think what book it is I am thinking about, but my little joke about it is "right on!" Anybody got a clue about what the real title was?

Other noisy things, my shoes squeaking, the TV volume had to be turned down from what we usually listened to it at......From 60 to 25, and set at 25 , and that was even a bit sharp and loud. But I did what I was supposed to do, and wore them to see if I can get used to the sound level. I have a follow up appt this next Friday, but if things don't 'improve' a little more, I'm going to have to run over there Monday and have them scritched down a notch. I must admit that I was feeling kind of relieved when I finally took them out for the night, and the quiet was so blessedly WONDERFUL. Meanwhile, today I am working up my courage to put them back in my ears. AND THEN THE WORLD'S VOLUME WILL INCREASE.

Nannie is still acting out of sorts, and I don't think the antibiotics are helping her. Maybe she DOESN'T have a UTI, and is 'just' experiencing an increase in dementia symptoms. I know she isn't being 'dumb' on purpose, she is just losing more of her ability to think and follow simple instructions, nor can she recognize her own house or the placement of the rooms......and NOW she wants to argue about things, as in: If she can't remember it, it isn't so. Like she tried to tell me over and over that her oldest son (my hubby) has NOT died. and insists that he certainly WAS here just the day before. No, she says, she isn't confusing her deceased son with his still-alive brother, who WAS really here a few days ago. She keeps exclaiming, "NOBODY TOLD ME ANYTHING ABOUT THAT!" and "WHY DON'T I KNOW THAT?" And of course she doesn't believe she has anything like dementia, even though that is a lot of what dementia so rudely does, take away memories; and it does keep getting more profound because that's also what it does.

She's dropped off to sleep now, so I guess I will go up to the kitchen and listen to myself wash more dishes!

Woo hoo, congrats on getting your hearing aids, No Stars!  I'm sure they will take a bit of time to adjust to.  All the little household noises... Wait till it rains!

Hello to all!

We watched Zoom Sabbath School (a challenge, as they had trouble with a couple of the roving mics -- it's hard to follow when you can't hear the discussion!).  I will bake cookies later.  I may nap, as I was unable to fall asleep till after 530 or so.  Meh, whatever.

We have been watching a miniseries by Dave Stotts, Drive Through the Gospels.  It's interesting to see the places mentioned in the Bible, and to hear his commentary.  He is knowledgeable as well as being entertaining!  We will likely never get a chance to travel to those areas, so we like watching documentaries and presentations about them.

Youngest ds is pretty much all recovered from Covid.  There were multiple mudslides on Thursday, in mountain and desert areas, after a tropical storm came thru.  Reportedly, 3" of rain in a few minutes.  Yup, that would do it.  No local casualties, but roads closed and property damage.

Have a good day/evening!

Don't listen to me, because I have not washed any dishes and I only now (6:10 PM) have I put my hearing aids in. The TV is BLARING at a volume level of 45.

Guess I'll go up and make a grilled cheese sandwich for the Nannie-person. THAT is something you can believe, though.

I DO wish you could hear Nannie chewing potato chips at this volume......it's like the sound of shoveling and/or scraping snow off an old cement driveway, with an old metal shovel. The first large chip she chomped down on I had to look around to see where that abrasive noise was coming from!

Add the sound of turning the electric fireplace on (Nannie is cold) it sounds like a factory now,

Oh boy I am imagining Gma's slurping noises being amplified and it is not pretty! Stars, I can only think of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (?).

3"of rain in a few minutes is a lot.

Wake-up time at the sleep center was 5:30. I happened to be awake. I left my charger there so will drive back up to get it tonight.

Watching OU vs Auburn. Midway through the 4th quarter OU is leading 16-10 but it could still go either way. Eek Auburn just scored a TD. Auburn's QB was OU's recruit last year but he entered the transfer portal and went to Auburn after the season. Not sure what I think of the transfer portal. But OU's new QB has done well so far.

I have a casserole in the oven. Baked some ready-to-bake sugar cookies. Why can I not find the "slice and bake" kind anymore?

OU managed to win that game 24-17.

I got the cookies baked, and after dh feeds the cats their evening snack, I will make the pumpkin dip and prepare some cookies and dip for tomorrow's trip to Riverside for the band practice.

I think if dh and I were to get hearing aids, we'd also be surprised and dismayed by all the household noises that we DON'T hear now!  Our good friend Dave, who is GREATLY hearing impaired, told us years ago that it's actually quite nice, not having to hear everything going on around him...  😄😄

Have a good evening!

Ado, y'know, when I did hear the dog and Nannie each separately slurping at several times tonight, I thought of you and Gma, and I don't believe you could tolerate it at this volume! It was  a realization to me, of what sound you have to deal with, and ICK! I am so sorry you hafta hear it even at a reduced volume! 😣
