G'day
Joe, I hope you have a good hike.
J22, I hope your sister had a good day. The first few days can be rough.
Stars, some of those conversations are really a head scratcher aren't they?
It's a really nice sunny day, but it's hot.
Yesterday was okay. We had a sick call but they were able to float us someone. We were to get a nurse from one unit, but they had a call out, so they found a nurse from another unit but they had a call out. So at around 7:30 they floated us a nurse. She worked step-down but actually used to work with us so it all worked out. But I had to take 3 patients so as not to overwhelm her since she's used to 4:1 max. Whatever.
I got up at 6:00 and fed the dogs and thought I'd stay up. Walked outside for 30 minutes after which I went back to bed. I made it to hot yoga class already. The afternoon class on Saturdays looks like it's canceled. Too bad because I liked that instructor a lot.
Went to the Asian market and another market and am having a late lunch.
Very very happy with my blood pressure this afternoon 121/76 which is quite low for me. As you know I've been monitoring it as I'm on the verge of going on medication. I've made an effort the last three days to cut back on salty foods like Asian which I eat a lot of and things like sauerkraut and kimchi. While the word is still out and one low reading doesn't mean much I'll keep at it.
88 degrees and maybe a little more than that, and they say the humidity is not high, but you could've fooled me; I came in from errands and filling the bird-feeders, and I was a-SWEATIN' something fierce!
We won yesterday's baseball game, but I can't remember the score....maybe 10-3? Anyway another game starts in an hour.
I had to get a certain Father's Day card because it was funny....a little dog, (mini-dobie) squinting, then the same photo close up to his face, squinting, and inside it said, "Okay, who's been fooling with the thermostat?!" It also said "Happy Father's Day to a really COOL guy" and I added 'except when you're having a hot flash.' His inner thermostat is out of whack. // I remember having to really search for a Father's Day card for my dad. I couldn't buy anything loving or sappy; it had to be a card that wasn't offensive TO ME. That was quite a challenge back in the day. I didn't like him because he verbally picked on me all the time and I didn't think he was such a great dad.
Today is my sister's birthday, she is now officially ---egads, can it be?----She is now 76! That means I am about to turn 74 next month. What a joke, I can't possibly be seventy-four! That's like thinking it is Tuesday when it is actually Saturday.
All for now--------
Hope ALL are well!
Oh dearie me! I just insulted and pi$$ED off Nannie.
Out of the blue she said, "I've been a cripple all my life." I said, "No you were born 'crippled' (double club-footed) and once you were through with your surgeries (age 18) you were no longer crippled. You could walk and dance and do everything normally."
She looked displeased that I didn't sympathize with her and she tried to tell me she IS crippled. I said, "Your husband used to say, "Why do you have to tell everybody about it? If they didn't know you, they couldn't tell anything used to be wrong with your feet." She said, "My husband said that?" And I told her where she IS crippled is here (pointed to her head) because it has been 75 years and she still thinks of herself as "a cripple".
To her, "being crippled" was a rewarding thing because every one of her relatives catered to her, spoiled her rotten, gave in to anything she wanted, and pitied her in a very doting manner.
Oh well, now she has shut her eyes and is frowning. Too bad, so sad.
It's on the cool side here, in the 60s. Rain forecast for tomorrow. I went to sis's house with ds so I could do some yard clean up and he could mow. Except he forgot the keys to her garden shed. Then we went over to the hospital for a brief visit. PT worked with her, and she got up in a chair. She still had IV fluids running and a foley, and I requested those to be dc'd. She's likely going home tomorrow. I brought her some shoes, and I'll bring a shirt and some shorts tomorrow. She still won't ask for pain meds until someone happens to come into her room. Argh.
I don't get my dh anything for Father's Day because he's not my father. The kids will likely call him tomorrow.
Good work on the bp, Tweetie. I know that fermented foods are supposed to be good for gut health, but the salt is bad for bp.
Oh, dear, Stars, you didn't go along with Nannie's poor-me party? ?
Hope you had a nice hike, Joe.
J22, I'm glad your sister was able to have the surgery and has done well so far. Wishing her an uneventful recovery.
I rode my bike today and still struggle going up inclines. The road to the hospital starts out with a nice downhill coast, then up a hill and back down into the low area where they built the building. Coming back is more uphill than down.
Otherwise I've spent the day doing laundry for the boys. They let the mess in the front bedroom build to catastrophic size so I'm "helping". They are driving to Indiana Thursday to celebrate their good high school friend's wedding.
Gma has a spot on her bottom with some skin breakdown. When she sleeps she doesn't move at all. Hubs at least had her sleep on her other side when she napped today. And she doesn't move much at all. From the bed to the chair to the table. And the bathroom of course. I told him to put some zinc oxide on it. She hasn't been eating very well so I think it's time to start buying some Ensure. And she keeps muttering numbers.
There are more storms tonight but maybe they will stay west of us.
Seven young does were just chowing down on deer-corn in the backyard. So pretty to watch.
Then a young grey and white cat with two approx. 8 week old kittens were in our yard. The kittens were eating birdseed! One was black and white, the other one was kind of like a tiger cat, but its front half was grey, and the back half was orange! Seriously it was like two cats pushed together! Wanted so much to put out some food, but fought the idea. I'd love to adopt them, but Nannie doesn't like cats, and I really don't want kittens running around tripping hubby up or him falling on them if he would try to pick one up. UGH.
Nannie asked me if I could find a bed for her to sleep in. Yuh, in your bedroom. And she actually wanted to go to bed at 6:45 PM. She said she was really worn out. So, I said okay, and helped her to bed. Hubby was wondering if she seemed sick. No, just tired. She got up two hours later to use the bathroom and went right back to bed again. We are amazed!
Braves won again tonight 10-2.
10 PM: going upstairs to bed to read. I am a print-junkie, gotta have words in front of my eyes! It gets me out of my head.

Stars that is odd behavior, although not unexpected with dementia
NJ22 glad your sister is doing better now that the surgery is over
Tweety hope you next shift is better
Work wasn't bad yesterday, was a little busy towards the end of the day with some last minute stuff, but overall not bad at all
After work did some shopping for stuff for the family reunion, which is coming up in a little more than a week. Then relaxed, had a white Russian, and watched The Return of the Pink Panther
This morning the environmental group is having a hike. A small group, I think only 3 signed up for this. Thankfully it's not too far away
Rest of the day is fairly ordinary, lunch with dad then will watch Svengoolie, who has Curse of the Demon
Will be warmer today, up to the upper 70s. Has been unusually cool most of the week
