Oh, ugh, another hot and humid day: 90 degrees, 'feels-like' 101 degrees, 68% humidity, 51% chance of rain, (specified for 2 PM.) I got up earlier to take my meds and drink some coffee, and then fell back to sleep and woke up again just before 1 PM, which means I have to go get Nannie up. Then I have to let Tinker drag me around the yard so I can get very hot and sweaty. Summertime weather is NOT my favorite thing!
Yep. it's laundry day again and again and again, ad infinitum.....Nannie got up and made her bed, then lay back down in her wet pj's (soaked from knees to shoulder-blades), on top of the covers and got everything wet all the way through to the chux. 1st load is in the dryer and 2nd load is washing. Trying to decide if I want to go upstairs and gather whatever I have to wash; might as well, since there is nothing else going on here today.....that I know of, anyway.
I don't remember if I told you or not, but my friend in Fla. (whose nieces drove Momo up me.) mailed a toy to Tinker......it was three, 3-toed baby sloths who each fit in a nesting-hole in a soft tree-trunk. So cute! Tinker likes them, but she is trying to make one of them bald! The toys being sloths..... I at first thought one of y'all might have sent them, because you know 'sloths' remind many of us of Sabby, not because SHE'S a sloth but she said she felt like one some of the time.
Speaking of gifts in the mail, Tinker ALSO got a box with a wide number and range of little bags of dog treats, including dried chicken-hearts (which I had never heard of) and she sure does like them! And when I lifted a soft baby blanket out of the box as she watched, she began wagging her tail BIGTIME! It was like "Christmas In August" for Tinker! Right now she is curled up into a tight little ball and she had made a groan, so I draped her new baby-blanket over her and she did the well-satisfied sigh she always does when she gets covered up.
After showing me her jerseys and pants about a dozen times, and making sure to point out that she had 2 sleeves and 2 pant-legs and 2 shoes......(Imagine that! She thinks all the sections of her jersey are separate from one another!) I said "Yes, they are very pretty, but you don't have to keep showing them to me, because I just put them on you when I got you up", Then Nannie closed her eyes. She isn't asleep, but maybe she will head that way if it stays quiet in the den. It is so weird that it is 101 degrees and humid outside and yet here in the den it is COLD! I mean, get me a sweater and turn on the electric fireplace kind of COLD! And the AC is set on 72 degrees. Weird house. I'd be interested in seeing how they set up the ducts and vents, because whatever they did is extremely inefficient.
Speaking of QUIET, last night, about two hours after I fell asleep-----4 AM, mind you, and I was deeply asleep......Tinker had earlier decided she would lay on my pillow at the back of my head and neck, but all was fine until, at 4 AM, she jumped up and barked 💥😳💥 very loudly into my right ear! YIKES! Of course I got up and did due diligence with my baseball-bat-shaped flashlight, but nothing was astir anywhere. I figure she'd had a dream and woke herself up with that bark. Fortunately both of us went back to sleep with no problem and there were no further incidents of ...The Dog at Night In The Dark....? .....or whatever the book title was that Ado just finished reading.
I hate to mention this because then it may not happen, but I'm thinking that on Monday I will have the time to straighten out my room and change how the bookshelf is by the bed. Tinker has discovered she can get on the small beside table and then to the top and 2nd shelf of the bookcase where I have been keeping my little snacks. BAD GIRL! (Guess that means BOTH of us!) But I do think I got all the chocolate Reese's miniature cups cleared from any area accessible to her....but it hasn't stopped her from sneaking upstairs and rooting around, knocking stuff over while in search of some other treats..... BUT! I have put them in a large-ish Tupperware box with a secure lid, and since she doesn't have thumbs, she can't open the box.😉
So the dryer just buzzed, I suppose that is my cue to get up and do something, Nannie wanted to 'help' the other day so I had given her some facecloths and hand towels to fold, but it made her arms soooo tired, she had to give up trying. So much for an nearly (in one month) 96 y,o. helping to do any household chore. Her head thinks (maybe it thinks) she should be able to do all the things she could do YEARS ago, Her spirit is willing, but her body is NOT! And when I told her on Thurs noc that I had to go take the trash bins out to the end of the driveway, she started to get up out of her chair, saying she would help me. I told her I doubted she would be able to drag even one bin (with wheels!) more than two steps, if that many, since they were very heavy. She pouted because I "never let her do anything"......and she hates to be reminded it is because of her age and condition that she is unable to help. I told her she'd spent many years doing everything for everybody else, that she was at the point in her life now where she doesn't have to do any work, and that is why *I* am here. Secretly, inside, I was also pouting about all the household chores I have to do, thus having become the 'housewife' I NEVER imagined myself being; and for NINE YEARS, no less! ....HEY! I want a divorce!
Past 4 PM ( the 12-hour 'anniversary' of my rude awakening by a dog who YELLED in my ear) and I have not had any breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Nannie has not napped and I have not gotten up to fold the clothes from the dryer and put the wash into the dryer.
This naughty 'NOT' has to fold clothes in spite of what I may feel like doing ......and I can't even think about what else I might want to be doing, so, since I'm at the end of my rope, ummm, POST, so I will get the folding taken care of.
Adieu and Adios!
I want a divorce from Nannie.
Today after she finished eating her supper she wanted to know where her feather was. I have never seen a feather anywhere around her..... today or ANY day. She kept peeling apart her two jerseys hems, to look between the layers, because the feather might be there.....and then was searching under her butt with her hands. Then she wanted to get up out of the chair....for more feather searching. Meanwhile I was TRYING to eat MY supper. I told her if she could wait 5 minutes for me to get through eating, I would help her search. She couldn't wait 30 seconds, because she got up from the chair, going OVER the raised footrest; I wish that thing would break while she is sitting on it. She was going around the recliner, looking and looking for a feather that "isn't exactly white, but it's not dark." She didn't know what SIZE it was, big or small-----"it's just a feather." She was bending over, or trying to, so she could search UNDER the recliner. I told her if she falls while she is doing this, I will be calling the ambulance. She stopped the search and sat back down in the recliner. The word "ambulance" is a GOOD way to get her to "sober up" and sit back down.
She is also trying to explain how the people in the commercial are a part of the show that we are watching on TV, who said what, (I turn the TV to MUTE when ads are on, so I don't know how she has figured out what they are saying.) and what they are trying to do, which she indicates is something NOT very nice; they are trying to fool us AND the people on the show.
That is not the sum total of all she is doing to drive me nuts today. And there is always tomorrow to get through before she goes to the Senior Center on Monday.
Just breathe, Stars......... Only 30 minutes until it is her bedtime.
I am glad Tinker enjoyed her gifts. How nice! We had a stuffed tree limb with holes that had 3 little chipmunks to put in the holes. Darby had fun with it.
When we had the teddy bear clinic the kids brought their stuffed animals and we gave each animal a certificate. There were 2 named "Slothy" that day. 🙂
Enjoyed lunch with my friend D. Bought some groceries and crashed for a bit. We had frozen Chinese food for dinner. Then I got a text from a high school classmate asking me to join a large group of my classmates at a local bar for our 45th year get-together. Hubs wanted to stay home and work on the boat but I went and had a good time. I wasn't close to most of these people back then but I knew them throughout my formative years and there's something about that shared history. I really don't drink often or much and ended up feeling a bit tipsy.

Tweety hope the GI had some useful information
Stars glad you had a break from her today
Ado there does seem to be lot of issues for such a new building
NJ22 I'm debating whether or not to bird watch today
Work was good yesterday, nothing unusual, no new cases. Was nice to have a break. Had time to make the mushroom crostini for the potluck. The potluck had fairly sparse attendance for some reason, thankfully it wasn't too hot
Today might bird watch this morning, although it is supposed to be hot and humid so we'll see. Then will meet dad for lunch, then going to a WW2 museum with my friend N. Glad we chose an indoor activity
Going to get up to the mid 90s today
