Santa Rosa Junior College Fall 2020

Published

Hello!
I haven’t seen a post yet for anyone applying to SRJC for Fall 2020/Spring 2021. I’m anxiously waiting to hear back, but it’s a long way until June! Any tips from anyone currently in the program on how to focus my “off time” this semester to stay sharp?

Don’t worry about the TEAS. 2 weeks is plenty of time to study enough to score at least 65%. I  was worried about the TEAS so I studied every day for about 5 weeks. Mind you, I’m a single parent and had a crazy toddler running around my study space so it wasn’t exactly quality studying.
I scored in the 93rd percentile (national ranking).
I recommend getting the ATI study guide and take a couple practice exams to familiarize yourself with the format.. see where your weaknesses are and then focus your studying on those areas.

Thank you so much! What a relief!

Just found out that Fall 2021 ADN cohort TEAS exam will not be until January (if not then later) so we have some time!

Has anyone in the Fall 2021 Cohort been getting ANY emails beyond the acknowledgment that they received your returned acceptancePDF? Or are people getting info that is filtering down from the Spring Cohort?

@Amy Aderet I’m sure the staff at SRJC will answer any specific questions you have if you email them. I’m in the Spring 2021 cohort and we got an email acknowledging receipt of acceptance, then nothing until it was time to register for the TEAS and info on orientation. They probably haven’t emailed you because nothing is scheduled for your group yet.

I heard that they will not be contacting us until we need to take the TEAS in January.

It is very frustrating that the acceptance letter states that they will contact us soon about further actions we need to take and yet they don’t. Not only that but it states not to contact them. I had to have my counselor write them an email in order to find out about the TEAS.

@VetmedtoRN Thank you, that’s super helpful.
@Jyoti Lewis I have three nurses in my family who all assure me that this is typical nursing school hoop jumping, frustrating but not unusual. (Three different schools amongst us.)

We just have to put our best hoop jumping shoes on, a tireless smile, and prepare for the road to come. More hoops ahead? See you out there.

Hi everyone!

I am almost done with my first semester in SRJC's program, I started January 2021. I know I was pretty information starved at the beginning about schedules, expectations, workload, scrubs, COVID modifications etc and it made me really nervous. I am happy to answer questions about the first semester as I'm able to. I had a second semester student that kind of adopted me and it has made my life easier, just trying to pay it forward to the next class ☺️

Thank you @VetmedtoRN and congrats on completing your first semester of RN program strong! I’m curious as to how the class schedule is during the first semester. I’m planning on working at least 12 hours per week (which is one day of work for me) You think that will be okay?

Hey there!

I got accepted into the Fall21 cohort. Haven’t heard much although they said to get ready to take the TEAS and that was back in January and haven’t heard anything since then. I was going to buy my books early and study over the Summer for the first semester to prep.

Can you tell me anything about the schedule and what to expect.

I really appreciate having someone to ask as I don’t know anyone personally that has been accepted.

@asanjose there are several people in our cohort who work at least 1 day a week, I do 2 shifts/week. The important thing is flexibility in your work hours and good time management. I don’t know your background but if you’re a CNA/EMT etc then you will have a leg up for the first semester and probably spend less time studying than those with no medical background.
This semester we all had clinicals on Tuesday/Wednesday and then skills lab 2-3 days/week for a few hours on Mon, Thurs and Fridays. Each week the skills lab schedule is different. Lectures and reading assignments are posted each week, mostly on Mondays. There is a lot of paperwork each week for clinical (medication sheets etc) so as far as I know none of us work on our clinical days and definitely no PM/night shifts between clinical days.

Thank you for responding!!
