Santa Fe College ASN Fall 2016 Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I think I'm making this forum a bit early since the deadline for Fall 2016 is sometime after the Spring 2016 semester. In any case if you all weren't aware they have made some pretty drastic changes to the selection point system. They have basically gone down from a max of 90 points to a max of 76 points. Volunteer hours have been cut out completely and the points for the test scores have been reduced to 6 instead of the old 10. Maybe some you guys can chime in with the points you have/expect. I heard people were getting in with 60 points using the old system. If we applied the same ratio to the new system that would be approximately 51 out of 76 points for acceptance. I should have around 56 points at the application assuming I make an A in one of my two prereqs next semester. Anything to add?

Yeah. You were totally correct. How has the process been so far for you? Like after you accept your invitation, what's next?

hello, im planning on hopefully applying to santa fe school of nursing when ive completed all my requirements. i was reading these comments and i wanted to ask you guys some questions... the kaplan test, that has to be done at the school in gainesville correct? and how can you study for it? also when you guys talk about volunteer hours, what do you mean by that? is that just volunteering in a hospital or volunteering elsewhere. lastly does having a CNA license advance you in their points system? and a bit of a personal question, do any of you have a plan B if God forbid you dont get it? i wish the best to those of you who have applied already, really hope you make it.

Hello Agarcia,

Kaplan Location

I do not believe that you are required to take it at Santa Fe. The Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam is required for several nursing programs and I don't think you would be expected to take the exam at each location. I would suspect that it is similar to the SAT, ACT, GRE, etc. in that you can send your score to multiple schools that require it. However, I am not sure about that because I have not looked into it. I am taking the exam on Monday at Santa Fe's main campus.

Studying

You can purchase a study book from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, the Santa Fe bookstore, and others. I have heard that the exam is fairly basic, similar to high school FCAT. You should just need to refamiliarize yourself with some math and reading comprehension. Santa Fe only looks at your score for the math and reading sections. So, you don't need to focus much effort in the other sections of the exam.

Volunteer Hours

That would be referring to healthcare/hospital/clinic volunteer hours. However, you do not need to worry about volunteer hours because Santa Fe no longer considers volunteer hours for acceptance.

CNA Points

Having your CNA certification may earn you 10 points, but you must have completed a minimum of 120 contact hour program and currently possess a license. You may see the point allotment and calculate your possible score by referring to the information packet (I suggest reading all of it).

Plan B

I am applying to begin the program spring 2017 and I will have 51 points which is the typical minimum for acceptance. However, they accept a few students from the middle and bottom of the point list for a better "balance."

My plan B is the Accelerated BSN program at UF because I have a BS and an MS in other fields of study. If I was not so deeply rooted in Gainesville I would consider several other ASN/ADN programs. There are a lot of programs throughout the state and you should consider all of the routes that you would be willing and able to take (UCF, USF, UF, CF). There is also a program in Ocala (CF) that you can attend part-time, work part-time, and get your ASN in the same amount of time because you would take classes through the summer. When considering different programs, avoid for-profit schools, and check the programs ratings and hiring rate after graduation.

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I applied this past fall and did not get accepted. I had 46 points. I reapplied for the spring 2017 semester with 51 points. I'm relieved to hear that this is the minimum requirement for admission although I know that does not guarantee anything. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice going through orientation. I'm excited, nervous and very hopeful. I wonder what we can expect if offered a seat. Anyone who has been through the proceed who would like to share their experience?
