Hello everyone, I think I'm making this forum a bit early since the deadline for Fall 2016 is sometime after the Spring 2016 semester. In any case if you all weren't aware they have made some pretty drastic changes to the selection point system. They have basically gone down from a max of 90 points to a max of 76 points. Volunteer hours have been cut out completely and the points for the test scores have been reduced to 6 instead of the old 10. Maybe some you guys can chime in with the points you have/expect. I heard people were getting in with 60 points using the old system. If we applied the same ratio to the new system that would be approximately 51 out of 76 points for acceptance. I should have around 56 points at the application assuming I make an A in one of my two prereqs next semester. Anything to add?
Hello everyone! Congratulations to those of you who were accepted to Santa Fe's ASN program for the fall. I am hopeful for spring 2017. All I have left is to finish MCB 2000 this semester, Kaplan this month, and BSC 3086 this fall. If I do well on Kaplan and keep my GPA where it is, I will have 51 points. Do y'all know anyone who was accepted with that point count or lower? I noticed that most of you had 53 points or higher.
Hey guys! I'm sorry I never replied to any comments directed at me after my post. I was really sad because I ended up choosing to take a CNA class at HCC (even though I had my CNA license but not a 120 credit hour program) which was $1000. It was about 6 weeks and I urged my professors to let me take my final early to get the certificate in time for SF's deadline. I turned in my application right on the day of the 16th. I had 43 points and I would have had the 5 extra points if only USF had sent me my AA certificate earlier, but they didn't I'm sad because this was my second time applying and Santa Fe put me on the wait list, which meant that they would let me know by phone if there was an open seat available anytime from June 17th until August 22nd. It really sucks because it cannot determine if I will stay at USF or not, so I ended up not renewing my apartment lease in hopes that SF might accept me this summer. If they don't, then I will have to find last minute housing. Has anybody else been put on the wait list?
Hello ChangingPaths, the ratio I originally calculated counted 51 as the minimum entry score based upon previous applications and conversion from the old point system. I haven't asked around much but I am highly certain at least someone got in with that score. The lowest I've personally heard has been 53, but like I said, I haven't asked around much. I did hear people during orientation with low GPA's, which goes to say GPA isn't everything, you just have to supplement your score.
Hello Janetkewel, don't be too hard on yourself. If this is your dream you will figure out a way in. If there are any extra points, earn them, if you need to retake classes and get better grades, then do it. If it makes you feel better, I overheard people during orientation that were fourth-time applicants. It took them a little longer, sure, but what's a few more semesters compared to the rest of your life? It's far more important to spend a bit more money and do a few more semesters to get your dream job than to be stuck doing something that doesn't make you happy.
WOW! That actually seems a tad high for the cut off, especially since 20 of the possible points are for health related licenses, military, and prior application. The only points I don't have are those and I lost 5 points because my prerequisite GPA is not above 3.75. They aren't kidding when they say it's stiff competition.
Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, I mean based off information from previous terms, 51 points is pretty typical. I'll be right at 51 points with the extra five for reapplying, but that doesn't guarantee anything. I'm assuming they will adjust it, if need be, based on how many applicants they receive and the point average. But just going off of what the Santa Fe advisor told me, 51 points is going to be the minimum.
Wow, so my estimate was correct after all. The way I look at it then is 51 points has been the minimum for at least two semesters in a row now. Because I applied the last semester's cutoff based on the old system to this new system and it came out to 51. I would venture to say that 51 is still a good score to shoot for and above to be safe on this current point system.
