Hello Future Nurses (and current nurses)! I wanted to start a thread for those applying to SAC's ADN program next month, and for those who've already gone through the process. How are you doing on your nursing journey?
For me, I've just finished my prerequisites at Ventura College (started Fall 2015 - YEESH) and moved to the OC. I'll be applying to SAC, Golden West, and Cypress. Anyone else applying to the other two schools?
I recently starting working as a CNA, new grad here. Hoping my experience will be beneficial for when I become a RN (of course it will). I'm on my third day, and already so humbled.
Please fill us in on your journey!
I transferred in so I didn’t go through the entire process the same way but I had mostly all A’s transferring in and had close to a 4.0 GPA. However, I asked some of my classmates and they had over an 85. Some had in the 90’s. I think that if I would have applied I would have gotten in the 90’s as well since my previous school had a similar point scale system for admission. I calculated from my previous school over a 90 and got in the first time. If you don’t have in the 90’s that’s OK you can still reapply and as someone mentioned earlier in the thread that she/he got a job, added more classes to boost his/her GPA, etc. which definitely helps! I would also include a letter explaining why you want to become a nurse and what was your motivation. When I plan on applying for my advanced nursing degree I believe they mandate you to include a letter about yourself and also letters of recommendation. I wouldn’t go thus far and get letters of recommendation at this point but I would include a letter about myself because it never hurts to do so. If I were a nursing program, I would have students include that in their admission packet because it gives the nursing department a feel for the person you are, your reasons for choosing nursing, and what you’ve accomplished throughout your life... basically what sets you apart from others.

Does anyone know if Pharmacology from Golden West counts for points?
You’d have to get in touch with the nursing director to have any transferred nursing classes evaluated. They are independent of prerequisites and aren’t evaluated through the admissions office. There’s also a nursing guidance counselor that goes over your prerequisites and what you’re missing for your graduation requirement as well as your BSN transfer (assuming y’all are going for your BSN- I think everyone should be going for nowadays). If any of you want the notes and other course material via pdf ppt etc please email me [email protected]
also I’m giving away some stuff I don’t need anymore as well as selling some books and other items that didn’t make the free giveaway list... I will post a list here tomorrow with “free” and “for sale and price” next to it.
