I just went to SBI for information as I believe I have better chances getting in this school than at FSCJ. I was told that for the RN program, I would be taking classes for 12 months on campus, then 6 months on externship. The rep showed me the pass rates for the other medical programs offered at that school, but of course the pass rate for RN was not posted. I was told that the RN program is only 2 years old.

1. Where can I get the NCLEX pass rate result for the first graduating class(es)?

2. I know that SBI is an accredited school, but is their RN PROGRAM accredited?

3. Where are all the graduates? Are they RNs now? If so, are they working?

I would love to hear your opinions. I also hope to hear from SBI nursing students or SBI nursing graduates before I even consider diving into debt again.

Thanks!!!

You do put the school on your resume. I was concerned about going to this school and especially being a new program so I called the HR of all of the area hospitals and I was told that they really don't care what school you go to, as long as you have your license. You can't sit for boards if your school isn't accredited so having the license means your school met the requirements needed. When I go for my BSN all of the nursing classes will not need to be repeated because I will already be a RN. I will start where that left off.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate all your input.

RNin10.... I considered SBI because of positive feedback I have read in some posts here. I went there and the RN program seemed really great.

The problem that I had was with the Admissions Counselor. I felt this person did not know a lot about SBI's RN program. From reading posts here, I have learned of many things including terminologies (or acronyms) such as NET, NAT, TEAS, NCLEX, etc. When I initially got interviewed, I specifically asked for the pass rate for NCLEX. I was told that they have changed it to TEAS. What he meant was the NLN. No. 1 clue that I ignored because I really wanted to give SBI a chance to persuade me. Anyways, I could go on and on about what he told me, that unfortunately contradicted everything that SBI probably wanted to use as tactics to get students on board. His credibility is absolutely shut now for me at this point in time.

It's not the school that I am questioning about, but the training for their admissions could be a little better. I believe that if this person does not know an answer, he should admit it and maturely and intelligently ask an expert. If this person has and had intentions of lying, the lies should have been made harder to detect. The internet is a very powerful tool, and there are many ways a person can diligently find out information. Sometimes this advantage can make them look like liers, crooks, or unorganized if they give contradicting information.

I know you are very happy there. I probably would have been too. I just wish that the counselors study their programs before interviewing prospective students. Just because I am applying there does not mean I am dumb to not get into other state schools. My GPA at FSCJ is close to 4.0 and I have been on the President's List, but my GPA from 20+ years pulled it down to a mere 2.5. My chances significantly decreased into getting prioritized for FSCJ. I do not have time to wait so I am looking into going to private career colleges. That is the reason why I am looking at these "alternative" schools.

Anyways, I apologize for venting. Please update on how you do there. Please prove me wrong, that the reason SBI is in the bottom of my list is because of the Admissions Counselor, and not because of the credibility of their RN program. (Maybe I should just contact the Director of Nursing)

Also, I tried to PM you but I do not have 15 significant posts yet, so obviously it won't allow me to.

Hi Patientlywaitingagain!

It is a shame that the admissions person couldn't have some of the simple facts straight! I would definitely recommend that you speak to someone. If not the director of nursing, the campus president! My GPA at FSCJ is 3.9 so I know what you mean. I went to SBI because of my ability to start immediately. I will definitely let you know about NCLEX! Good luck. I will see if I can PM you and give you my email.

I have been accepted into this yrs RN program. Just wanted to say Kudos and ask for your prayers. LOL I'm a mom of 3 and will be working full time. I'm a strong-willed and determined old broad, though. So, don't think I'll have any problem though. hahaha

Any advice on Algebra though??? I have already taken it, but didn't transfer in. (over 5 yrs.) Bummer!!! The only class I'm leary of!!

RNin10, Im soo glad i found you on this website! When i heard that this year's class is the first graduating class for SB's nursing program, i knew i needed to talk to someone currently in the program. I had a great experience with all of the advisors and i really liked the campus. I passed the Teas yesterday (thank goodness) so im ready to enroll. I plan to start in January, but i cannot register untill October! I would love to keep in touch with you and here how you job searching goes:). Thanks for all your positive feedback!

Hey there,

Well to start off, we are not the first class. We are actually the 4th nursing class. We are the second evening class. I have a couple of friends' who will be graduating in Feb. from the first night program. I am very pleased so far. I love the program and the instructors. Only issue, is the sleep I've been losing. lol

I'll write more, when I can keep my eyes open. C ya:yawn:

Hi Nurs1ab. In June RNin10 said that there has not been a graduating class yet. So is what your saying is they have? They told me they only offer one class time which is 1-6 Monday to Thursday. Is that considered evening? Hope you got some rest! You have alot of stuff on your plate:).

How do I know what?????

Hey Folks..

Am in the 1st Night Class at SBI...we graduate in Feb 2011. Looking forward to it. I will say this, you guys/gals in the classes after ours will have a more smooth experience. New Programs have growing pains, and the is always the 'learning curve'.

When considering any RN program, you, the prospective student, must do your homework. Look at the Florida Department of Health for the pass/fail rates on the RN-NCLEX. That is a good place to start. There has been alot of talk about Not-For-Profit schools vs For-Profit schools. There will always be this give and take over which is better. Personally, I wanted to check out the FSCJ program, but was NEVER able to get anyone to answer any of my questions, let alone return an email or phone call.

I chose SBI over the other For-Profit schools here in Jax because I wanted to get my RN schooling DONE and with a schedule that would allow me to continue to hold a job. Face it, a man's gotta eat! LOL

But going back to the pass/fail rates, the statistics on this report are a guide only. Both types of schools decide who gets approved to sit for the RN-NCLEX. Meaning, if you see a school that boasts about a large RN program be sure to ask about the number of students in the program, and the number of students who successfully complete it. Keep this in mind, as the number of pass/fails a school has is a snapshot of the number of students who are 'cleared' to sit for boards. In other words, if a program boasts that 100 students successfully complete the program, take that number (100) and compare it to the pass/fail report. If there are 30 pass and 10 fails, then this only accounts for 40 of the 100 students successfully completing the program. Not very good odds in my opinion.

Anyway, from my prospective, if you, the student, think you are going to coast thru an RN program and be able to pass the RN-NCLEX, then you might ought to save your money and not even apply. Any RN Program requires the student to put forth the effort. Bottom line, you WILL need to study!

Good Luck with the Program!
