SANE training

Published

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to say that I came back from a SANE training in Atlanta and it was wonderful. I'm now on my way to becoming a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner(SANE). If this is something that you want to do, go for it!

Hi ! I'm also a SANE nurse. I took my training in Madison Wisconsin and we have 6 SANEs in our ER. We just started the SANE program this past fall and it works great !! I only had to do one SA case before we started the program, and I sweated through the whole thing, and fumbled around with that rape kit. Now I breeze right through.

I'm glad there are nurses like us who want to do these rape exams.. If I were raped the last thing I'd want to worry about is "Does my nurse believe me or even care enough to collect good evidence?"

Now not only are we trained to collect and document solid evidence, we can do the entire pelvic exam and the docs just interview the patient in the end and order the meds.

Greetings All Nurses,

I think what you all are doing is overdue and is wonderful. I am a male and if I was a female the last thiing I would want after being raped by a male, is for a male MD fumbling inside my lady partss or vulva, collecting evidense or doing the exam!

Way to go Nittlebug! And any other nurse doing this function who has taken the training to do it right, right on, peg those perps/pervs!

Peace,

Have a Blessed Day

we're starting a program at our hospital. I'm excited to begin our classes are at the end of the month. It will be a new program for our hospital and we have 10 nurses to start.

do you know of any sane training programs in rockland or westchester county ny?? the nyc one still doesn't have a date for their next training so i'm looking around.heeellpp!!

There is a need for male SANE nurese. Women are not the only people who are raped. It happens to men too.. This is especially true in corrections.

I thought the same thing when I realized that only women had signed up for our program...and when I mentioned to everyone that women and children weren't the only victims of sexual assault they all said they hadn't thought of that....

Hello Fellow SANE's! I'm new to this board. So nice to meet everyone:-) I work in a large city hospital with about 25 SANE'S. I joined the hospital almost a year ago. Just since January, I've lost track of how many cases I've had. We've been really busy! As to the male nurses joining us, I think that's a great idea. We do see jail inmates and also do suspect exams twice a week. For anyone considering this field, the only thing is don't count on it as a primary source of income, unless you also work staff in the ER or elsewhere. We all have other income sources. Most work part time at other jobs. If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to answer them. Just send a PM.
