I think we are all worried about getting in with all the program cuts. My score is in the 70's but I am a worry wart and am still anxious.

It seems that we are all worried about what our point value is. Some have said in the past that they are in the 70 or 80 point range, but I am taking the common sense route here. I don't believe anyone should be discouraged if their score is in the low 60's. Here is my opinion on the point value. The counselor for nursing stated in all her years at Delta, only 6 students have submitted applications with a total of all A's in their sciences. And if you are the exception and have received the same recently...I commend you! I believe receiving 2A's and a 1B in your sciences is the norm. I also beleive there are more students with 2 B's and 1A in their sciences.
Again using common sense, with grades of 2A's and 1B, you receive 32 points for your sciences, if you received A's in Nutrition and Eng 1A - another 10pts, special circumstances 2.5 points, foreign language 2.5, I will even throw in an AA degree for 2.5 points and volunteer points at 1 pt. Now let's throw in a TEAS score of 82 - another 16 points = for a GRAND TOTAL of 66.5 points!
Again, common sense, to calculate a higher score the scenario would have to be as follows - BA 5 points, 2 A's and a B for sciences - 32 points, Nutrition and English (A's in both) 10 points, special circumstances 2.5, foreign language 2.5, and I will throw in EMT at 2 points, volunteer at 1 point and a TEAS at 90 - 20 points. A GRAND TOTAL of 75 points!
Again, there are other exceptions and I am not stating that someone cannot earn 83 points as a total score. But, as you can see by computing the values, and using a little common sense, these people are the exception and are to be commended. I am just trying to give scenarios based on the statistics I have received from students that are willing to be honest with their points and trying to encourage those that have earned points in the 60 range. I am open to comments/suggestions for what I have just posted.
Again, if you are one the students that have points in the 70's or 80's, I am not trying to devalue your exceptional hard work. Just food for thought here with a little inference.

I believe you may have old criteria since the TEAS points have changed. For 91% or above you get the full 30 points and 1 less point for each percentage below. So the 82% would count for 21 points and the 90% would be 29 point. Hopefully everyone is giving themselves the right amount of points. Maybe its not as bad as some thought.

My points have been calculated with the new criteria. And I'm still at 61.5. I got 32 points for 2-A's and 1-B in my sciences, 10-points for A-s in non science pre-req, 15 points for scoring a 76.7 on my TEAS, only 2 ponts for my 10 years in the medical field, and then the 2.5 for special circumstance. But I will just keep my fingers crossed :)

I have 68 points with the new criteria....33 for 3.69 science GPA, 10 for nutrition and English GPA, 2.5 for family circumstances, 20 for 81.3% on the TEAS, and 2.5 for AS degreee....my friend met with the nursing counselor today and was told 61 points was lowest that was initially accepted last semester....plus a few people will not accept their spot if they get in somewhere else so I really think 60 and up stand a really good chance.......it's gonna be a long three months.......

I commend you, JGhopeful. This is absolutely a great point to make about grades, in my opinion. A "B" means that a person scored or earned an above average grade. So these students are not the norm to begin with. However, what you didn't account for are the amount of students applied per open spot. 40 accepted out of the, say 400 applied, to make the math easier. It would not be ridiculous to say that these are the top 10% academically (general assumption since most points came from the GPA section). I honestly don't believe only 6 students have gotten straight A's. This number may have been from the last class, certainly not in total. I am a tutor and have met more than 6. It is definitely not easy.

Although, your math is incorrect your logic is correct. Make those changes to the updated TEAS scores and you'll see that scoring in the 70s for acceptance is more norm than one would assume. Now, another factor to include, JGhopeful, is that more people = more hospitals means more nurses. There will eventually be a general trend of increasing applicants. Not only has Delta's program been reduce but some schools have lost their program all together. Not to freak anyone out but to conclude my point - nursing is more competitive/impacted now than it has been in the past. The past doesn't determine the future but merely gives us a JG"hopeful" prediction. I'm merely adding fertilizer and water to grow your food for thought.

I am pleased with the comments that have been left regarding my earlier post. I did have the older version of the point system as I was referring to the documentation I received when I first started this journey. Nonetheless, as NB84 addresses, the logic is still the same. I hope this helped anyone else that was not figuring their point value on the new TEAS V version. Everyone knows that this program was designed to accept those individuals with outstanding academics. If you are among the coveted 40 chosen, job well done!

OK, I submitted my application Sunday evening. So glad that's done! Is anyone on here from the Sacramento area? I'm wondering if the Sutter Extended Campus with Sac City is doing a Spring 2013 program. I'm not seeing anything on there site or the application page.

Does anybody know if the Teas score is rounded up? For instance, I got an 86.7, so would that be points for 86 or for 87? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

You should get points for 87, but put 86.7 in on the application if you didn't all ready do so.

ok thanks. yea i definitely put the exact score lol i put 86.7 on my app. i was just curious if i could get that one extra point a 26 instead of 25 lol. with only 40 getting in every single point counts. i'm really nervous. just wish so badly they were taking in 70 like they always did before. my overall is 60.5 if its 86, if i get the 87 for the teas then my score is 61.5. what was your score?
