Just decided to start this forum for the Spring 2013 ADN program at San Jacinto College. I can answer some questions regarding the application process. I got accepted for the 2012 Fall program but I dropped out of the program a week in school because I was accepted into a BSN program.
While the first eight weeks is easier don't let that fool you. A lot of people get behind and don't develop good study habits. Remember you have two classes and try not to slack in health assessment, which is easy to do. The first test in HA is pretty easy, but the second requires more studying.
Here is the schedule:
First semester - Foundations - 8 weeks (4 days a week), Health Assessment (16 weeks, 1 day a week), Intermediate Skills (2nd eight weeks), clinical
Second semester - Med Surg 1, clinical, and Pharmacology (10 weeks in summer for all three)
Third semester - Med Surg 2 and clinical (first 8 weeks), Med Surg 3 and clinical (second 8 weeks)
Fourth semester - OB and clinical (eight weeks), Pedi and clinical (8 weeks)
Fifth semester - Psych and clinical (8 weeks), Management and clinical (8 weeks)
Thanks, you are soo awesome! ...I just have one more question we were given a list of required books for both classes. Now im looking at the syllabus there are alot of recommended books for Foundations. I know you have been successful in the program, did you rent all the recommended books too?
How exciting!!!!
I am on my way to my second semester. MS1 & Pharm.
Everything that has been said here is the honest truth.
The first 8 weeks were a walk in the park... The second 8 weeks I felt like I was thrown into deep and cold water.
Like they said... Do NOT let foundations derail you from HA. It's a balance. I guess as future nurses we must learn now as student nurses how to prioritize.
I wish you all success!

I had them Weds evening, but they also can have weekend clinicals. It is just luck of the draw with clinicals.
