Hey I was just wondering if they did send out their orientation letters? If you did just get accepted, how long did you wait for? I'm just really close on that list but I think I just missed getting the letter. So I hope some people are dropping out for other schools. I'm not sure how much longer I can wait!!!!

Hi!

Yes, I got the letter. What's weird is that the mandatory orientation letter was the first I received from SDCity College. I am on the waitlist for a few other colleges and heard back from another saying I've been accepted for fall admittance. At this other school, however, they first sent a preliminary letter saying I had been accepted. This letter from City College just mentioned the orientation so I called to find out what my status was. I received an email just stating what my number was on the waitlist... so I didn't think I had been offically accepted until I called and talked to someone different yesterday! Weird. I'd say that it's possible some spots will be opening up. I, for one, do not know if I'm going to be starting this fall (as I have a 3 1/2 year old and one who is 6 months). This fall it will have been 2 1/2 years since I applied.

My cousin just finished the nursing program at Grossmont College. She was given a 2 days heads up before the semester started because someone backed out that last minute! Good luck.

Hi! I'm thinking about moving to SD and applying to that SDCC, but I just started doing some research and it seems that its pretty tough getting into a nursing school in SD just like it is up north in the Bay Area. I read on SDCC's website that their list is 2 years long. :crying2: I just looked into Grossmont, and I get the feeling theirs is long too. May I ask how long you've been waiting? And, do you have any thoughts on Grossmont vs. SDCC? Thanks for your time!

I'm going to grossmont right now to finish up my gen ed. I've actually never been to SDCC, but I think both are around the same education. Both waitlists are about 2 1/2 to 3 years. your best bet is to get your science pre reqs done, get on the waitlists, then take all your gen ed for a BSN and see if you can apply to a university.

Hey roseof7,

which date are you going to go, if you are going? I did receive my letter and I'm attending May 15th.

:tku:

That's super helpful, and discouraging at the same time. = ( I have pretty much all my prereq's done after this semester, and I already have a BS degree under my belt. Sadly, a few State Universities won't take me back because they're impacted, but I'm going to keep my head up! I just want to become a nurse one way or another without paying a ton of money for it, which is why I'm shooting for community colleges first. Perhaps after getting an ADN, I'll then move onto a BSN someday.

Good luck to you and congrats on getting in!!

I'm actually going to be unable to attend either orientation! I'll be in Chicago that week and there's no way I can attend. It's a major hassle, as I'll be sure to miss out on a lot of information.

Yes I'd say the 2 1/2-3 year assessment is right-- for the Grossmont and SDCC nursing programs as well as for the dental hygiene program at Southwestern (those are the three programs to which I applied). This fall it will have been 2 1/2 years since my acceptance to SDCC and Southwestern and I still don't know when I'll be accepted at Grossmont, so that will have been at least three years.

I also have a bachelors already (though a BA) and so was inelgible for the SDSU program. I have been told by nurse friends that the higher pay a BSN receives also applies to a bachelors + RN graduate. A friend who has her MSN degree and who is a GREAT resource, as she's worked at different hospitals all over SD and has had every type of job related to nursing imaginable (research, legal advising, management, clinics, triage from home, teaching etc) recommended SDCC and Grossmont both, saying she's been impressed with the caliber of the students coming from these programs. That, coupled with the price, there's a reason why there's such a long waitlist for both. As an aside, I've heard (frankly) less than flattering things about National University's program, which is something like $40-45,000. You might be able to get in sooner (and it is a BSN not just associates) but it may not be worth rushing into as you'll be paying so much more for a lesser recommended school.

im considering natl. what kinds of things have you heard?

I spoke with a friend who is actually attending National's nursing program before responding. She said it's $40,000 for tuition, which doesn't include books or living expenses. She said she's been happy overall with the program. She also said that 1 out of 6 of her teachers so far was horrible, but the others have been good. The other students are committed but that, "There have been alot of problems with units transferring, financial aid help, and just random little things. I mean it is not UCSD or anything...but it is getting the job done and I will be a RN with a BSN in under two years."

My other contact had been a teacher there. I think she was less impressed from the administrative side of things. She said that quite a few classes would be canceled mid-way through, due to a number of issues. They may have worked those kinks out by now. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to throw National under the bus, but that was what I had heard about them. My friend there now seems happy overall... if you want to spend the money. She's working part-time as well, but says she thinks she's one of the only ones doing so. She's crazy busy but she's a newlywed and is somehow making it all work.

Hope that helps!

thank you, that does help - and actually, i did want you to throw national under the bus to the extent of what you had heard. that way, i could make as informed a decision as possible.

Whooohooo! I start fall for city :yeah:

I have been on the list since June 06!

I was in the same postion as rose. I have BA already and there were no programs in 06. I can't wait!
