San Antonio

U.S.A. Texas

I am contemplating a move to San Antonio in a few months (already working on licensure by endorsement). After 20+years of bedside nursing, I'm looking for a 9-5 type of job( i.e. Case Mgmt, telephonic work, etc); anything that is NOT bedside nursing.

Can an anyone tell me what the job outlook is for these sort of positions? Are hospitals still the best place to start looking or are there clinics, etc?

I am not familiar with the facilities and the job market there. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

San Antonio is a pretty small market - I don't believe you'll find the range of non-clinical positions that are available in the larger metro areas. For instance, certified CM's are a hot commodity in Houston right now as the larger healthcare systems move more heavily into their population management strategies.

Thank you for the info

San Antonio is a pretty small market

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states there are 153,000 jobs in health and education in SA (they do not differentiate between the two). Houston does have more of these type jobs (320,000).

In direct comparison to Houston, SA is a smaller market, but not a small market in general. SA has a ton of opportunities, as the population (1.5 million) makes the city America's 7th largest, and second largest in Texas behind only Houston (this holds only if you consider Dallas and Ft Worth as separate population zones).

With your experience, you'll find more than enough opportunities for employment in SA.

Thank you for the link. They actually have quite a few positions open that would interest me!

You're welcome. University is a massive system. I've worked for other hospital systems here in San Antonio, and I prefer this one hands down.
