Samuel Merritt's Transition to Professional Nursing Practice (T2P) - Summer 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

I just applied to Samuel Merritt's T2P program with CPMC. For those not familiar with this program, here is the link: http://www.samuelmerritt.edu/t2p

I wanted to start a thread since the few threads on the T2P program are outdated. Are there people on the same boat as me who applied this time around and are waiting to see if they made the cut? Does anyone know if the process involves interviews or if the decision is made solely on the application? Also, I'm curious as to how beneficial it actually is to pay for this preceptorship that doesn't guarantee employment. I've read somewhere that programs like this aren't considered valuable experience since it is not paid. I prefer to stay hopeful! Anyone complete the program? Please share your experience with landing a job after with CPMC or elsewhere. Does anyone know how often CPMC hires new grads through T2P and how many people are generally accepted into the program vs. how many applied? Maybe we can share the timeline of the acceptance/rejection process with one another on here. The search for employment and/or valuable experience after graduating is stressful, and any information is much appreciated!

Congrats!! For those of you who did get in, can you tell us how long you have been out of school? And approximately how many jobs you had on that list we had to send in showing our efforts to gain employment?

I just graduated from a BSN program but I have been looking for a job since January. Wondering if maybe since I just graduated, they took others who have been out longer? But I think I have applied to 50 jobs so far so that is why i am wondering... How long do you need to be out & unemployed to get into the T2P program? Thanks so much! :)

I graduated in December 2012. The whole point of the program is basically to keep up with your skills since being done with school. Basically another form of a preceptorship. Most people probably have been out of the hospital (graduated) for a least 5 months. I only listed 2 actual responses from hospitals but have probably applied to over 300 jobs since getting my RN License.

I got in as well, but I won't be attending because I just got an offer for per diem employment (yay!!) at an eye surgery center. I didn't list every specific job I applied to, I more explained all the avenues I have tried for finding jobs (volunteering, networking, the breadth of jobs I've applied to since I've applied to way more than just hospital jobs, etc.). I graduated nursing school December 2012.

I went to nursing school out of state. Nursing is a second degree for me, and my first degree was local, plus I have some volunteer experience with CPMC.

Seems like a great program and best of luck to those attending!

I graduated Dec 2012, too. I didn't list specifics on where I applied besides that I applied to many every single week with no positions offered yet. I think the last day to know if you made it is May 31st, so fingers crossed for you!

Also, congrats c2011!!

I graduated from SMU in May 2012. I have applied to over 300 jobs, have had 3 interviews and only one job offer (in NC) which I turned down to to the hardship it would have caused to go there. I also mentioned in my app that I had applied to grad school to get my MSN but that I really would like to work over going back to school at this point. I have been volunteering in a hospital for around 6 months, have taken a Maternity course where I'm living, have networked, and gotten certifications. I also mentioned that I am taking a medical spanish class as well as working toward another certification specific to my field of interest.

I got into the program and was planning on attending, but just found out the other day I got an interview at a wonderful hospital in my preferred unit. So if I get that job, I will definitely take it. If not, I'll see you guys in the T2P program!

Good luck to those who haven't heard yet!

Congrats on your interview!! Good luck!

Congrats to everyone who got in! And thanks as well for the feedback. One additional question for those of you who got in: What did you list as your three "goals/objectives" while in the program? I just graduated in May but will def be re-applying if I cant find a job by the time the next cohort starts... And I know its always good to get tips from folks who have walked the path before you. Thanks so much everyone... Excited for you all! :)

Is anyone really paying the tuition by the 17th? On the website, it says it's due July. The email says otherwise though.

I would pay it by the 17th to avoid being dropped...just in case. I haven't paid it yet, only because I'm waiting to hear if I got a job and should hear any day now. But if I haven't heard by Monday, I will pay the T2P tuition then.

Very new to this site, and don't know how to start a new thread... for those who have successfully completed the T2P Program any tips on the professional development portion of the essay. I'm leaning on choosing 2 clinical skills and 1 leadership but was hoping for advice. Thanks in advance!

I just got accepted to the Fall 2014 T2P can anyone tell me how they liked the experience and if they thought it was worth it etc? How many people got offers, how the didactic and preceptorship parts were? ANything would be appreciated!!! TIA!
