Hi everyone!! I applied for Spring 21' and I'm on the waitlist.

3.78 Science GPA

3.74 Pre-req

6000+ hours paid healthcare experience/CNA

40 hours of volunteerism

Certificate of volunteerism

An active member of 2 clubs

Honors program/certificate

2 AA'S

TEAS score coming soon!!

Do you know what the TEAS test contain? Meaning the HESI exclude Biology and Chemistry.  Does the TEAS contains these subjects?

Does anyone know if there are any organizations currently accepting volunteers in the Bay Area? I have a good amount of hours, but I would obviously love to get more before the next application is due. Please let me know!! Thank you ❤️❤️

Everyone here seems really competitive! It's very difficult to know exactly what SMU is looking for. As someone stated before, luck probably plays a HUGE part with SMU

I agree, luck does because someone got selected for Spring 2021 despite having less stats compare to other candidates. I think, also Healthcare experience help a lot but I am kind surprises when you are in waitlist. You are very strong candidates. Have you tired to other school?

Hello Everyone!

I applied for Spring 2021, but am currently waitlisted ?!

  • Overall GPA: 3.78
  • Science GPA: 3.60
  • CNA licensed, but no work experience outside of the program
  • Hospital Volunteer: 81 hours
  • Bilingual (not sure if it matters)
  • Working a minimum wage job (not sure if it matters)
  • I am still finishing up Microbiology and Developmental Psychology for this Fall semester
  • I took the TEAS once, but I am not proud of my score so I will be retaking it!

Good luck to everyone! Wishing the best for all of us! ??

I haven't taken my TEAS/HESI so I wasn't able to apply anywhere but SMU. I'm taking my TEAS on the 19th so I'll be applying all over for Fall 21'. But I have also seen candidates with lower stats and some who still have prerequisites to complete that got in.

There are some places online that you can volunteer for things like texting crisis hotline! Or maybe Google covid volunteer, you might find something there.

Does anyone know why the waitlist was expanded? Or has it always been 37

I was surprised about that too, because usually it's 20. I guess someone asked --------------------- how many they usually take from the wait list, she said 5-10

How are you guys approaching the goal statements? Based on the stats that people posted (of those that got in) it seems that SMU is looking for people that have a lot of life experience, or have gone through hardships, etc.

Well, I'm gonna hope and pray they take 19 this time?
