Members are discussing various topics related to their nursing program admissions, such as deadlines for health care requirements, background checks, acceptance emails, and orientation information. Some members are also sharing their experiences with being admitted to different cohorts and creating Facebook groups to connect with their peers. Additionally, there is confusion about the timing of acceptance notifications for different cohorts.
Hi ya'll, starting a discussion for those who applied to Summer 2025 cohort at SMU! I'm curious to know if anyone has gotten any emails/updates? I personally applied to the Oakland campus. Goodluck everyone! : ).
Yes, I accepted the decision and paid the deposit this morning. I still don't see a checklist for the background check, etc on my portal though.Â
I also think that they'll be sending out more decisions letters for acceptance since the last Summer cohort was finding out about decisions until March 20th.Â
I am making a career change so I do not have healthcare work experience. What I did not know was how competitive the nursing field was in the Bay Area. I have been reading some posts about SMU and was wondering what the state of their clinicals and preceptorships are? I am just trying to see what I would be faced with in terms of finding employment after potentially acheiving the ABSN.
I would look through old allnurses posts regarding SMU ABSN. Theres a lot of information from alumni and current students. From what I know the school got rid of their preceptorship program and many people have said its disorganized. My mom, fiancés mom and aunt are all RN's in the Bay and Stockton. I also know many of their coworkers and they have said nothing but good things about the school and students. Theres SMU students who also do clinicals at Highland where one of them works so theyre pretty familiar with it.Â
I have no doubt about SMU's reputation. I do think that what seems to matter these days is experience. Although there is no preceptorship, maybe the clinicals are what we can try to bank on to network in finding potential post-Nursing jobs? What are others doing? Do most of you applying already work in healthcare?
From the other allnurses threads for ABSN I think they do send out acceptance letters in waves. I also saw on that the deadline is extended until tonight so I think they will still be sending out more acceptance letters. This is also my second time applying to SMU and when I applied to the direct entry MSN they sent the interview invites out in waves as well.Â
