I am a prospective student for Samuel Merritt University for the cohort starting in Spring 2014. Campus of choice is San Mateo. I am considering the ELMSN-NP program as well since the prereqs are identical.
1. I was seeking information on TEAS test experience. What is the cut off for this test to get in? I have to take this test within the next few weeks in order to make the July 1st cutoff application. (I wanted to take this test after I finished my prereqs which will be completed by Sept 14th) Currently I am finishing up A&P I lecture/lab and Nutrition courses within the next 2 weeks, also currently taking Microbiology lecture/lab which will be complete by Aug 24th and signed up for A&P II lecture lab, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology courses starting at the end of June and ending Sept 14th 2014 to make me 100% complete. I am currently making an A in all the courses attempting now. I have an undergrad gpa of 3.1 and science gpa of 3.5
I am currently on the east coast and have been serving in the military for 6 years. I lived in Orange County prior to joining for 6 months and have visited California numerous times and loved every second of it so I know this is where I want to end up, hence is why I am applying for programs out there.
I also wanted to know about anyones experience in previous cohorts at any of the campuses for both ABSN and ELMSN programs.
If anyone else is applying for Spring 2014 please respond to this thread as well that way we can get to know each other somewhat and give a chance to those that get accepted to start networking. Wish everyone the best of luck!!

Hi Snickers123,
I didn't apply for the CM tract so I'm not sure what types of questions they were asked. The FNP and CM interview style is completely different. CM is 1 on 1 and the FNP was 16 people per interview session and we were interviewed by a 2 person panel. There were a lot of group activities and exercises rather than point-blank individualized questions. If you search allnurses.com for Samuel Merritt University Fall 2013 Oakland-CM you will find the thread from last year and this year leading up to interviews and through interviews. I do believe a few of the posts reference the interviews. Hope this helps :-)
Thank you Camel! It's been a long time coming! We registered for classes Monday and I almost fainted when I saw that I had a $19,500+ account balance for the 1st (yes, that's 1 semester only) semester lol...expensive, but it'll be worth it in the end :-) Good Luck to you!
I could totally relate your experience when I first looked at the statement, but like you said it would totally be worth it. Just be prepared and it is a fast and furious program that things never stop! Just treat yourself a very good break before the program starts. I am finishing up my 2nd semester (3 more weeks to go!) of ELMSN-FNP at Sacramento.
IM a bit worried. I haven't received an e-mail saying it was sent to faculty review. All i got was the first email about my application being reviewed with admissions. Is everyone here only applying to San Mateo for the Masters program or for the ABSN program only? I saw that they cashed my check, but im worried im missing something in my packet and they just stopped reviewing it. AH please let me know! Also my last name starts with a Y so I dont know if they are going to alphabetical order.
Hello All,I just wanted to wish you all luck with your applications to SMU. I went through the very same stress and the nail-biting waiting process last year. I was accepted into the Fall 2013 ELMSN-FNP program at the Oakland campus. I'm not sure about the timeline for Spring entry, but I submitted my app. on 10/31/12 (deadline was 11/1) and was invited to interview 1/29/13. Interviews began 2/9 (I was in the very first group of 16 at 9:00am on day 1 of interviews) and ended on 2/23. They interviewed over 200 people and I was called on 2/24 (on a Sunday afternoon) and offered early admission into the program. I'm currently finishing up my last pre-req which is Stats (2 weeks left in the semester thank goodness) and then I'll have about 3 weeks until orientation begins. I'm pretty excited and know that there's so much work ahead of me, but this is my dream and I'm up for the challenge. If anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability so ask away!
Do you mind sharing your stats?
