I am a prospective student for Samuel Merritt University for the cohort starting in Spring 2014. Campus of choice is San Mateo. I am considering the ELMSN-NP program as well since the prereqs are identical.

1. I was seeking information on TEAS test experience. What is the cut off for this test to get in? I have to take this test within the next few weeks in order to make the July 1st cutoff application. (I wanted to take this test after I finished my prereqs which will be completed by Sept 14th) Currently I am finishing up A&P I lecture/lab and Nutrition courses within the next 2 weeks, also currently taking Microbiology lecture/lab which will be complete by Aug 24th and signed up for A&P II lecture lab, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology courses starting at the end of June and ending Sept 14th 2014 to make me 100% complete. I am currently making an A in all the courses attempting now. I have an undergrad gpa of 3.1 and science gpa of 3.5

I am currently on the east coast and have been serving in the military for 6 years. I lived in Orange County prior to joining for 6 months and have visited California numerous times and loved every second of it so I know this is where I want to end up, hence is why I am applying for programs out there.

I also wanted to know about anyones experience in previous cohorts at any of the campuses for both ABSN and ELMSN programs.

If anyone else is applying for Spring 2014 please respond to this thread as well that way we can get to know each other somewhat and give a chance to those that get accepted to start networking. Wish everyone the best of luck!!

Hi Everyone,

I finally have time to write back. I am in the ELMSN-CM program. I went ahead and made a facebook group for both tracks. "Samuel Merritt University - ELMSN Spring 2014 - Sacramento"

I think I read in an earlier forum that you're currently in the FNP program. Am I correct? If so, can you pls shed some light on the pace and rigor of the program? I would really like the authentic insight. Also, thank you for answering the FA question above.

Sorry. I dont check here often and my past week had been rough with my sickness and final. I could not tell you how fast pace this because we still have classmates that work (not recommended!). It really depends on how you manage your time. You can ask one of the current students at the new student orientation. I will leave this question for them.

Does anyone know about our schedule for the first two semesters? My husband who will live in San Diego was wondering if we would get holidays (MLK) and weekends off.

Do we just have classes the first 4 semesters or do we go to the hospitals too? Southwest Airlines has a sale right now $49 each way, so we're trying to plan accordingly.

Thank you!

I don't recommend you to get tickets in advance. You may or may not have clinical on weekend. Some of the students will have clinical during weekend for the first semester. You should wait until you figure out when you will be your clinical day before purchasing the ticket. For second semester, my class didn't have any clinicals fallen on weekend. (but it may change from year to year)

Hi guys is anyone moving out to sacramento? Any suggestions on areas to move or cheap housing?

Hey,

This's Teresa from the group interview. You can find the calendar on the 2013-2014 student handbook.

Thanks Teresa! This was very helpful!

Hello All,

Sorry for my 2 month hiatus from this site and all the folks asking me questions about the program. I'm currently in the ELMSN-FNP at the Oakland campus and I'm in my first semester. So, I'm just 1 semester ahead of you all (lraymundo u know me from Fast Response School. This is my alias name lol). This has been a crazy 2 months in the program. There is SO MUCH work to do every day it's insane. I'm not trying to scare anyone at all, but be prepared for a lot. You are all going to feel scattered and like you have absolutely NO IDEA what's going on and when things are due, but trust me, you are all in it together and what one person in your Cohort doesn't know, someone else does! I will try my best to come back to this site and answer questions that you all may ask as often as I can so please fire away! I have a patient write up from clinicals that's due tomorrow so I will check back in with you all later. Congrats to those of you who were accepted to both the CM and FNP tracts and for those who were not, applications for Oakland aren't due until next Friday the 1st so you still have time! Don't give up!! I applied to different schools for almost 8 years until I got accepted so go for it. Feel free to PM me also if you don't want to ask questions on this open forum :-)

Sincere congratulations to those who've been accepted, and gone through the FNP orientation! I am sort of in a tough spot-I was wait listed #5, there has been no movement. My chances are starting to look dim at this point. I was just wondering if any of you know of someone who perhaps declined their offer or accepted a spot at a different school? I spoke with the counselor who informed me that the absolute latest SMU would accept someone from the wait list would be Jan 6- the first day of class, so technically, not all hope is lost. I would just like to know if I should be looking at other options-although this was the only I applied to. I am planning on reapplying next year, so if anyone would like to share their experience on that, I would also greatly appreciate that! Thanks

Hi Lee Ang,

Those of us who were accepted just finished registering for classes. Perhaps if there is any movement on the waitlist it may be soon. Not everyone that accepted registered for classes, so they said those students would be dropped. I'm not sure what the numbers are but maybe a spot or two or more opened up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
