Hi all,

Applications are due just around the corner, and I was just wondering if anyone else has started the application process yet.

It would be good to hear back from others who are going through the same process!

i havent heard anything else and they told me I would receive the packet. Im seriously worried about the pre-reqs because it will be a summer course and those are few and far between. Anyone take microbiology or physiology over the summer anywhere in the sf bay area?

@gohs - if you are able to swing the schedule, you might try looking at De Azna or Foothill CC. They are on a quarter system and spring quarter starts in April and ends at the end of June. It might at least allow you to get one other class in before the summer session starts up.

Wow! You got an early admit missing two science pre-reqs.? You must have had a killer application.

I needed physio and micro for my application, because those are the professors that I had write letters for me. I didn't take them over the summer, but I've had great experiences with biology classes at CaƱada College.

I've been trying to stay away from this thread; I find it makes me feel less optimistic. At least it sounds like acceptance letters should sent out in about 10 days though, which seems about on par with what people reported the last two application cycles.

Thank you Kzimmerman!!

Let us know when you hear back from SM regarding Case Management track.

Goh, I will be taking microbiology during summer. I am taking anatomy, physiology and sociology right now. I have to start looking into where I can take micro during summer. Hopefully I can get in to the class without no problem...

Where is everyone taking their CPR?

I had a really tough time getting into a physiology class and I ended up taking it at Samuel Merritt, it was very expensive but I had been trying to get in for a year! At the community colleges and even CSUEB, I had last priority and by the time my turn to register would come, all the classes had been filled up. At some places I couldn't even get on the waitlist! I say start early and try to get in everywhere!

science classes are the hardest to get into. :(

Yeah, and I can't imagine taking a 5 unit science class with over summer again with a bunch of 18/19 year-old's. I did it with Gen. Chem I a couple years ago. If I recall correctly, it was 8:00am to about 2:00pm (we left early some days when the lab was short) Mon-Thur for ten weeks. After class I'd eat. go to then go to the library, and leave campus around 4:00pm. Also, it was a couple weeks longer than the other summer classes, so toward the end of the term it was weird walking to the library, because the campus was deserted.

congrats to everyone who got into the program!! and good luck to everyone still waiting to hear from admissions.

i haven't applied to this program yet, but i've perused this thread and see that there are a lot of people here who are very familiar with the application process! if you all have time, i have a couple questions..

1) what were your stats coming into the application process? undergrad GPA, prereq GPA, science GPA, work/volunteer experience

2) how was the whole nursingCAS experience? is it difficult to use? i think someone mentioned that SMU won't be using it for next year but i might have read that wrong

3) have you guys applied to other programs? is SMU your first choice? if you have options in terms of which school to attend, what are you basing your decision on?

thanks guys! i'm going to try to apply this upcoming year, so i'd love any sort of guidance!!

I guess I'll bite:

1. undergrad GPA: 2.9ish (supposedly they only look at your last 60 semester units)

Prereq. GPA: 3.55 (3.81 if we leave out those two C's in freshman english)

But the main metrics they use are:

Last 60 semester units: 3.52

Science GPA: 3.77 (this only includes Chem, Physiology, Anatomy, and Microbiology)

These stats got me into the interview phase so far.

2. I wouldn't worry about NursingCAS, they're not using it anymore. Yes, it sucked.

3. SMU is my first choice, but I do worry about the length and cost of the program. Since USF's MSN-CNL program is shorter and slightly cheaper, I may have a tough choice if I'm accepted into both.

Hi, I had average stats, nothing extraordinary.

1) Undergrad GPA: 3.6 Science GPA: 3.7

I volunteered at American Red Cross for 4 months and worked at a pharmacy for 2 years.

2) the NursingCAS experience was very annoying. We had to enter each class we ever took including name, units, etc. The good thing is they aren't using it anymore, so don't worry about it =)

3) I didn't apply to any other programs, only SMU.

Hey guys those of you that are accepted, anyone want to make a Facebook page for our class? I've never done it but if no one wants to I guess I will. I was thinking it would be nice to stay in touch with everyone and be able to discuss stuff. I was checking out the FB page for the FNP class of 2011 and I guess it would be really nice to be able to help and support one another through the next 3 years!

I would love to be part of the FB group!

Did anyone receive the packet? It's been over a week and I still haven't received the packet yet and I a seriously starting to doubt that they called the wrong person...
