Anyone out there applying for this program? Looking for some friends to share the stress of the waiting game with!
Hey, everyone! I just got off the phone with Liza. Over the past several days I've been deliberating between the ELMS-FNP and the ABSN program (I was lucky enough to get admitted to both of them). After long (and, I hope, careful) thought and after talking to several students (current and alum), I told Liza that I am opting to go with the ABSN. The two main reasons are that: (1) my wife and I are trying to get pregnant; and (2) my parents are elderly and I'm their primary caregiver. I have no way of knowing how those two things will affect my ability to be in a high-pressure program for even one year, let alone 3. So, I figured that rather than obligating myself to the whole 3 year haul right now, it would be wiser to slam out 1 year of hell, get a degree, and then come up for air and take stock. At that point I would still be able to apply to SMU for the post-professional FNP or I would be free to just continue on as a BSN-RN. That's the kind of flexibility that seems best right now. So, I'm sad that I probably won't see you FNP'ers in class, but I'm sure I'll be seeing you on campus (and probably at orientation in Nov). In any event, those of you on the wait list should be happy! :) See you soon!! Erik
Hey Erik- thanks for the reply. I hope you are happy with your decision. I can understand from your earlier post that taking one year instead of three at this time will be best for you. Good luck in becoming a dad. I am lucky enough to be the mother of 3 young girls and I can say that it's the best thing in the world.
Eternally- thanks for the info. When I talked to her last week I had moved from #8 to #6, but then when Erik said he had passed on the ELMSN I asked her again and my spot was still #6, which I find strange. I'm going to assume that she has to wait for him to sign a form stating he is giving up that spot before she can move us up in line.
So have any of you guys figured out financing? She told me to go ahead as if I'll be starting the program in January so I filled out my FAFSA, but I was just wondering what everyone else is doing? I'm going to assume that not everyone is loaded and able to pay the tuition up front out of pocket. (wish I could) Let me know what you guys are finding out there.
Thanks!

Good Luck to all that are anxiously waiting.. You all have given very good advice . I was wondering if anyone had information about paying for tuition, as far as scholarships or grants. I know financial aid will be in the form of loans but was wondering if anyone had any information about other alternatives.
