Hi all! Wondering if anyone has heard anything more (perhaps from an SMU admissions counselor) about when San Mateo June cohort will find out about acceptance. Anxious to hear!

Same. I was contemplating dropping in one of the ABSN virtual sessions to see if we can get any info..

Does anyone know how many hours of clinical hours we do in the SMU ABSN program? I got into the Oakland campus for Summer and can't seem to find any info regarding the # of hours we complete by the end of the program.

Hi everyone!

Congratulations to those who have been admitted, and crossing my fingers to those who are still waiting. I hope you guys are excited for nursing school at SMU. Im a current ABSN student at SMU and I just wanted to give you guys a small insight to what it's like. I know how anxious you guys all are to start!

My experience so far has been phenomenal. I agree with @honeyhoney that you will have to do A LOT of learning on your own and there are barely any lectures. However, I do better in school with this format and am currently on the deans list. For your first semester you'll have 2 new classes every 5 weeks, and you'll have exams every week til you graduate.

As for clinicals, you do not have a choice of where you will go nor will they ask you where you want to go. You get placed in certain locations, and hopefully someone in your cohort will be able to switch with you. I have had an amazing time at clinicals and have been getting the hours that I need. They have decreased the # of hours you need per course, and you will have virtual simulations to make up for missed hours.

You'll have orientation soon and you'll learn a lot more about the program during that time. There will be panel of current students in one of the orientation dates, and you can ask them questions during that time. I also want to mention that your "cohort title" will be based on when you graduate. Those who got admitted for April 2021 start, your cohort title will be "ABSN April 2022 Cohort" and so on.

Anyways, good luck guys! I was in your position not too long ago and I know how ya'll are feeling. Ya'll are gonna do great ❤️

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with some insight! Greatly appreciated. Congrats on making the Dean's List!

Thank you for sharing your experience in Samuel Merritt! So do you think it’s gonna be the same way how we get educated this year? I am an international student and therefore will have to pay the full school fee, and if that’s the case where I have to teach myself, I honestly feel it’s gonna be a waste of money... At least I hope we can get live zoom lectures, not recorded videos. And about clinicals, approximately how many hours do you do in a week? Were you able to go to the school to do some simulations and labs?

No..I wasn’t able to drop in and I haven’t reached out. Honestly the 4/1 deadline is close and I should probably just prep for it regardless. Which campus did you put as priority?

@milkTee I put San Mateo June starts as my first choice. I know SMU counselor said the final decision should come out Mid-March but I am so anxiously waiting for it. I think I should start reapply for the next cycle.

@Minniesa47 Oh okay, hope we get in! Yeah, I'm pretty anxious as well.

My interpretation was that April start results would be finalized mid-March but if you’re waitlisted and there’s movement later, you may find out later.  Regardless yes we should all apply for the April 1 deadline!

@Allnurse9877 I will start it now because the LOR takes a few weeks.
