Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi All,

I didn't see a thread for the Samuel Merritt ABSN summer 2020 cohort and just wanted to start one, as I know most of us are in the process of applying right now. I applied to the Sacramento campus, but am currently waitlisted. I just wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations on how to be more competitive aside from GPA (as I am going to retake some courses to up my GPAs). I love that Samuel Merritt looks at applicants holistically. Please share the wisdom , whether you are applying or you are already in the program. Thank you and have a blessed day !

Thanks, Christina! One factor in my decision was that I would rather be with a cohort that was similar to me- that is, "more mature" (I'm 38- today is my birthday!) and going through the same kid/spouse/mortgage stress that I am so that we can support each other.

Lol, never thought about the "more mature" angle, but I think I agree! Yes I completely relate to kids/spouse/mortgage + more stress!! = (((

Hope we both get accepted, and would be awesome to support eachother and others in the same cohort!

Happy birthday to you!!!!

Question about references - I inputted 5 references, and 3 came thru for me and completed their reference requests. 2 didn't. I know we just needed 2, so I'm ok number-wise, but 1 I didn't get yet is my instructor who I really needed a reference from. I have sent several emails and for some un-freaking-known reason he is completely ignoring me. Aside from how mad I am about that, I am wondering if at this point should I be deleting the 2 references I didn't get? (the other reference was from a nice nurse that has just been too busy to do it, though she wants to.) My application is showing "complete" even though these 2 references have not been "completed". I am not sure if leaving them in will stall my application process? Or if it is even possible to remove them? Anyone have any experience with this in particular and can shed some insight? Thanks!

Did anyone who applied to San Mateo as first choice NOT get a confirmation email from SMU? In other threads I've read that some campuses are better about contacting you than others. I got a confirmation email from SMU for the ELMSN at Oakland, but haven't seen anything for the ABSN and I submitted both at the same time. Everything was verified by NursingCAS too. I put San Mateo as my first two choices (there are two start dates) and Oakland was my third choice, so I wonder if that's why?

Hey! I did the same thing but got a confirmation the following day. Have you searched your inbox?

Yeah, I searched my inbox AND my junk folder... Now I'm worried. I really wanted to do the ABSN, the ELMSN was a backup...

Hi Christina, I would recommend contacting the admissions department directly to see what they think you should do. I'm sure they have run into this issue a lot!

Ohh ok. My advice would be to reach out to Samuel Merritt and see if you can confirm with them that they got your application. It can be that there was a high volume of applications and it messed up their algorithm for generating the emails?

Yeah that's my plan, but will give them another few days in case maybe there was a delay. I submitted on 11/30 and only got verified last Friday, maybe that's causing a hiccup. Thanks!

Hey can anyone help clarify Samuel Merritt's Hesi content. Are the biology and chemistry sections still included as an option?

I need the biology and chemistry scores for other applications. I am applying to multiple ABSN AMSN which is taking quite a toll in many ways and I would hate to waste more time and money.

Hi! So what the counselors told me is that if you need bio and chem (samuel Merritts code doesn't have bio and chem) you would use the schools code that has bio and chem (as well as the other sections needed for SMU) and when you send in your test scores, SMU will only take the scores from sections they need.

so the bio and chem was in your HESI but you did not take it correct?

I cant find a single google search explaining this.

I asked live chat for remote testing and HESI who said they have no idea but they do warn me that some tests may or may not have the omitted sections.

All i wanted to know is if the section is in HESI packet whether it's graded by SMU or not. I have to take it for CDU as well and if the 3 HESIS a year rule was "real (no exception rule applied to all and not just ONE SCHOOL! wth" then I would worry about taking SMU's HESI exam. I think I found my answer.

No, the bio and chem sections were not in the test at all. It was only sections that SMU needed (math, english, A&P). I would recommend you just taking the Hesi with the school code that will have all the sections you need (as the schools can take the sections which they need). I hope this clarified it a bit lol
