Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi All,

I didn't see a thread for the Samuel Merritt ABSN summer 2020 cohort and just wanted to start one, as I know most of us are in the process of applying right now. I applied to the Sacramento campus, but am currently waitlisted. I just wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations on how to be more competitive aside from GPA (as I am going to retake some courses to up my GPAs). I love that Samuel Merritt looks at applicants holistically. Please share the wisdom , whether you are applying or you are already in the program. Thank you and have a blessed day !

Hello,

I just got a call on Friday from Anne that I got into the ABSN Oakland May cohort!! I can't believe it!! For those of you on the waitlist, there is still hope!! They are still planning on starting end of May but the date may be pushed out due to COVID. It sounds like we will know no later than two weeks before the start date.

Hello everyone,

Do you think your friends, who may be interested in attending accelerated nursing programs or entry level master programs would be interested in learning how to be a competitive applicant?

Let me know. If you all have any ideas, please send them to me. I feel there is a need for students to know more about this pathway other than the generic program requirements. Students frequently ask me questions about how to standout especially if they do not get in.

For those who do not know me, I'm in the Entry Level Masters FNP Progam at Samuel Merritt University. In the coming months, I will be providing services to students where we can zoom and go over some tips and things you can do to stand out of little charge.

Email me if you have any questions.

Hello everyone,

I want to give you all a breakdown of what is going on. Currently, all nursing students enrolled in the pre-licensure programs have had their clinicals cut short. Our school most likely will delay the start of the ABSN programs just by a few months so that they can focus on how they can get students who currently attend the school their clinical placements.

This makes sense for ABSN programs because you all on this track jump right into the clinical Med-Surg units. The school is working diligently to come up with contingency plans. Don't panic ya'll hang in there. Every nursing student across is going through this.

Again, in the upcoming months I will be offering services to students who may need help on being a competitive applicant. For those who are accepted. Congratulations.

I’d like to know which textbooks we will need for our nursing classes. To save on costs, I think renting or buying used is the obvious choice. If any upper class nursing grads can post pics of the books that were used, it sure would help us all out so we can see what we need. This way we can be on the look out for used/cheaper books to rent and buy!!

Which program are you accepted to?

Did you look at the Library webpage? Due to Covid-19, most instructors will not be changing books.

Hey guys, how did you guys end up paying for the program? That is what I am worried about. I am nowhere close to 80k!

I’m also wondering how people are planning on paying for the program... when I met with the financial aid office, they said that most students go with student loans.... but $80k in student loans sounds staggering and I can’t believe that’s the norm!! Does anyone have any other advice?

Message me too if you have advice! The prospective loans I will need to take are very daunting!
