I couldn't find any threads on Summer 2015 cohorts for the ABSN program at Samuel Merritt (San Mateo campus is my #1 choice), so I thought I'd start one! I was just curious to know anyone's opinion on how heavily they weigh each category of the application process. I have strong references, a solid work history including *some* health care (working with autistic adults for 3 years, except it isn't my most recent experience), and decent stats, although they could be stronger:
Sciences: 4.0 (so far, still in progress)
Overall: 3.6
TEAS: 89.3 (first try, but plan on taking again if needed)
I was really surprised to learn that they mostly look at Reading and Math scores from the TEAS, and not science (which was my highest score). Does anyone know if they rely on the classification? I was "advanced", but obviously would like to be "exceptional".
I am currently finishing up my writing samples, which I am finding the most challenging since it is hard to fit in all I want to say in 250-300 words. (CRAZY)
I am working on my application due September 1st, but am nervous since I still have classes in progress this Fall. Does anyone know if they really frown upon this? I know they say that it is suggested they are all finalized, but its okay if they are in progress. I am so anxious to get started in the program and learn!!!
Has anyone heard news on the San Mateo June cohort yet? Perhaps if you are all just hearing about Oakland, San Mateo will be next on their to-do list. Congrats to all who have made it! I was a Sacramento ELMNS-er back in 2007, but my husband is trying to get into San Mateo ABSN this summer. Wishing all of you the best of luck...
Got the acceptance email for Summer 2015 (April) Cohort. I don't have Human Growth and Development pre req complete however. Does anyone know if we get accepted for April can we request starting in the May or June Cohort? I was so excited when I got the email and now I just feel terrible that I can't actually go.
I was accepted to June cohort and requested to be switched to April because my life changed and North Bay clinical a are better for me. It does not hurt to ask.
Curls4jacqui, orientation is this thursday and friday (12th and 13th) from 830-4pm. They provide breakfast and I think you should bring your laptop so they can configure the security purposes on it. Did you receive an email regarding the information that they'll be going over?
Hey guys, I also got accepted in the program for this April. I am just little scared with the money situation. I hope they talk about this during orientation.
