Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2012

Published

Hi everyone! :nurse:

So, the applications are due today (September 1st) for summer admission to ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. How does everyone feel about their application??  What campus did you apply to?

I got one asking for a random assortment of transcripts, but not for my TEAS score. Weird, because I'd sent all of those as well! But then it turned out that one of my schools literally had not sent in the transcript I requested four weeks ago. Booooo.

Not sure who's still counting what, but I just got offered a spot into Oakland that I declined as I've already started in SF. I was spot 23 on the waitlist.

Hey San Mateo folks, just curious...when exactly does the June program start?

hey guys...those of you who already started the absn program...can you guys let me know where is your first clinicals are at? Are they all hospital based? i really appreciate any insight. THANK YOU!

They're at six different places. Kaiser is sponsoring us in Oakland, Oakland/Richmond, and Walnut Creek. We've also got people at John Muir in Concord/Walnut Creek, and at ABSMC's Summit and Eden. Not bad! I've been hearing about people doing their preceptorship all over.

Hi All! Not sure if this post is still active but I just applied to the ABSN for Spring 2013 and wanted some insider information. I was reading the blog and was trying to figure out some stuff. Is it true that many of you were wait-listed (some at 25-30 range) and were eventually accepted into the program? I had a low TEAS score compared to the statistics and am wondering how much this will affect my application, did any of you get in with lower scores? What do you think the overall acceptance rate into your cohort ended up being? Hope you guys are all happily in the program now!

If you have a low TEAS score. Than you better have a great GPA or a relevant career history (CNA, EMT, school teacher, counselor, etc).

I got accepted but ended up choosing another program. My tip is to kill the essays. Considering you are required to write three of them I think indicates SMU takes them serious. I actually have some good ideas for some essays that I think may set you apart. Private message me if your interested in hearing them.

Hi, NishA

I don't know what exact TEAS you consider low. Mine was 86% and I got in. I wrote pretty nice essays though and I also submitted my GRE score (even though it's only for Master's programs but I just thought it's better more than less). I also submitted 5 recommendation letters instead of 3. What I know from our faculty, they actually do read those essays very carefully.

You said you already applied. And I want to tell you "now just relax" but it's not that easy. I know how it feels... you're weighing in your strengths and weaknesses to somehow predict the result. Try to focus on something else instead, distract yourself from thinking about your chances for now. They took more than 6 months to let us know if we were accepted. I was seriously going crazy in the end of this waiting period but nevertheless...

I don't know how many people applied and how many got it. The faculty never shared this information with us. But I have a feeling almost all applicants got in. I hope it helps somehow.

Thanks for the tips! I hope it doesn't take six months, the program would start in January so they have to tell us be at least November right? I'm already planning to apply to the next round but I don't have enough time to re-take the TEAS. I had trouble with the Bio because I don't have a strong bio background except for the pre-reqs, I was a liberal arts major in college. And then I was second guessing myself on the grammar and that didn't end up well! But I did good on the math and reading and I read on the website that they look at those individual scores. Oh well...

Thanks again for responding! I appreciate the feedback :)

My brother applied to the same cohort as you. He heard from a counselor that decisions would be made and rendered around early to mid October. We'll see though...

Did you follow up and find out why they rejected your application for Summer 2012? I know you got in for Fall Semester, I saw your posts.
