Samuel Merritt ABSN - Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello!

I'm new to this site, but have been following the allnurses posts regarding Samuel Merritt program applications religiously for a while now. I recently applied to the ABSN and ELMSN - FNP program for the July 1 deadline. Thought it would be great to have a place to provide insight, stay updated and share experiences with all of you through this terrifying journey. I mean we ONLYYY have to wait until October - November to hear anything. Let the wait begin.....

Looking forward to hearing from you all :)

Thanks for starting this thread! I, too, have gone over old threads to see what to expect and was anxiously awaiting one for Spring 2019 applicants! I applied for the ABSN program in San Mateo. Currently finishing up patho and pharm online through Butler Community College in Kansas.

How are Butlers classes going? I want to knock them out ASAP lol

Last 60 unit and science GPAs both about 3.5

HESI ~ 95%

5 extremely strong LORs

I was waitlisted for the last cohort and improved my application a lot since then based on specific recommendations.

We heard back at the end of May (2 months from app submission) so I am REALLY hoping that we won't actually have to wait until October or later this time.

Good luck everyone!

They are going well. Lots to keep on top of taking two 8 week courses simultaneously (while also working FT and having a baby under 1). I'm managing A's in both though, so totally do-able!

What did they have you work on for your reapplication if you don't mind me asking? I have heard that science gpa and completion of prerequisites carry more weight when they look at applications.

Hello,

I applied to the ABSN program @ SMU TOO... I wanted the FNP but 3 years seems long.. so I choose the fast track .. hopefully am among the 48 that will be picked. Why does it have to take so long though???

Hello! Welcome back on round 2! How far down were you on the wait list?

Hey guys! I have also applied for the Sacramento ABSN spring 2019 cohort and the wait is killing me!!!! I took Patho and Pharm through Santa Barbara City College online program. It's good to know they have an A&P review class. I feel like the gap between classes and waiting for acceptance letters is going to leave me with a memory lapse! Yikes!! Good luck guys!

Are these your current scores for this application or were those the scores you were waitlisted on? And if that's what you were waitlisted on, can you share what they told you to do to improve your application? Which campus did you apply for?

This makes me very nervous!!

Hi everyone,

The stats I posted (~3.5 both GPAs, 95% HESI) were what I applied with for the last Sacramento cohort. These numbers got me only slightly above halfway on the waitlist. I had pathophys and pharm still in progress at the time, and submitted 3 LORs.

It was recommended to me after being waitlisted to find an academic reference (all of my letters were from professional sources). I'm not sure how important this is to them in general though or if it was just recommended to me specifically because I had a rough patch in my academic history.

The counselors all say to have at least one of your recommendations from an academic source because they want to know how you perform as a student since it's an accelerated program and they want to make sure you are able to handle that. Also having multiple prerequisites in progress at the time of your application likely affected you as more weight is placed on that when they look at applications from what I have been told.

Sounds like you should be good this time around. Fingers crossed!

It's so great to hear from so many people that are in the same boat! I received a 95.2 on the HESI as well. Have 2 LOR's: one academic and one professional.

Definitely agree that the word limit was so short for the essays! Could decide how to format it and in what tone to write them. I really tried to display the values and qualities I possess within that small limit while also displaying the experiences.

I'm finishing up pharmacology with ButlerCC online also! This course ends on July 27th for me. I wonder if we're taking the same one. I am taking pathophysiology with Maricopa CC which is based in Arizona but the course is totally online! So far so good :) Loving both of the classes. The pharmacology class ends during the last week of August, which is well before the decisions are made. I'm hoping to add the classes to the application so that they wont be in progress at the time of review.

Did anyone else receive an email recently stating that the preliminary review was completed?
