I figured it was about time for a thread for this cohort, especially as we're getting close to hear back for the Nov. 2011 SF cohort. Did anyone else apply this cycle?
For those that have been accepted: we received that email with a checklist of all yhe things we need to submit. On the list was a medical evaluation thing. Is Anyone else wondering how the hell their going to get their vaccination records?!? I don't have my record from childbirth and I would assume many people don't. What do you do? Do you have to get the antibody tests for all the vaccines? Any ideas?
I had a titer done for some volunteer work that I did and honestly, that is probably the easiest thing. I don't know about SMU, but some schools require you to have a titer done because vaccination records are not really all that official looking sometimes. I have no idea though how much they cost.
Hi there - I think one more spot opened up. So, we've all moved up another spot since EB's last email about rolling over apps. Did anyone request to roll over their applicaton?
Yes, Melody is correct. I did give up my Fall acceptance, and apparently I am cohort #1 for Spring. I inquired about rolling my acceptance into Spring and they reviewed my application, and they were able to accommodate me. I made the request because of the commute (I live in San Jose) as well as the hospitals for clinicals in San Mateo are actual locations I want to work at (Packard, Stanford, Kaiser Santa Clara, O'Connor). I would rather do clinicals at locations that I may work for so that I may showcase my skills in their setting. Also, I have a friend that is in the Spring cohort right now, and she praises the instructors at this location. I was able to roll over my letter of intent fee into Spring, and re-application to Spring is not necessary (at least not in my case).
This wasn't that hard of a decision for me because I have been guaranteed a spot for Spring, it is closer for me, and it is only a two month difference.
So basically if you are on the waitlist, at least one other spot will open up. Good luck to you all.
Yeah, I have to call up my childhood doctor and have my immunization records taken out of storage. I have to pay a fee and it may take up to thirty days. Also, the questions on the physical form are so invasive for women applicants, I could barely believe what they were asking! Yeesh! I know I'm going to have to get the titer for varicella (ie chicken pox) because I had it when I was child, but no parent takes their child to the doctor to have it documented!
On another note, I called EB and asked when orientation would be and she said that everythinga as far as that is in the SF campus' hands now so alot of questions in the future are to be directed there, apparently. I talked to financial aid and I was told that all of us could look forward to about $18k in Stafford loans, but would have to seek out private loans for the rest. Anyone know what loan companies or banks they'll be going with?

Hi fellow wait-listers:
That's how I understand it - we still hold our spot for this term, but can roll over our application as stated in the email. Woohoo!
