Samuel Merrit College and everone out there(Read me) What do you think? Am I worthy?

why would you apply to the other schools if you had no intent on going to them even if you got it.

I don't understand what (last 60 units) means in relation to the stated GPA. Does that mean that you could have an overall GPA of a 3.2, but the last two semesters were spectacular? I have researched Samuel Merrit online and spoken with them - no one mentioned anything about "last 60 units" GPA. I think they do look at the entire GPA as a whole, break out the nursing GPA and the science GPA to make the whole GPA more meaningful for considering anesthesia students. When I talked to them, they seemed to emphasize GRE results. I'm not trying to be discouraging at all, I think you will get in somewhere, but that you stand to be disappointed with all the eggs in one basket.

Your profile looks good. If I were on the admitting committee, there are two questions I would ask: (1) can you afford to go through the program without working. I know Samuel Merritt is expensive and (2) What personality traits do you think are important to be a CRNA?

YogaCRNA

I would simply say, "Go talk to the dean (and anyone else who might be influential) and see what she has to say (and let your name stick in her mind)." Invite her to lunch at one of the local upscale restaurants just a couple blocks away. What have you got to lose? Then afterwards, send her a nice card, like from the Sierra Club, with an attractive photo on it that is good enough that she'll want to keep it on her desk.

Stuff like that. Use your imagination. What would get your attention if you were in that position?

(BTW: I got my BSN from there. Expensive, but I lived in the dorm and borrowed every dime.)

Here are my responses to several questions asked:

I applied to several schools because I have to consider other options. I never said I would not attend them.

I didn't apply to the Kaiser program down south because they require a BSN, I have a BA in Anthropolgy from Berkeley.

Two personanility traits important to succeed as a student and a CRNA: have to be inquisitive and a good sense of humor is important.

GPA: Last 60 units was from Nursing School.

Previous 60-70 units were from undergraduate degree.

Ramon,

What about CCRN certification? That seems to be helpful (but not required) here in Texas. It might help offset your GRE score.

Hi comfortablynumb, I have considered the CCRN exam, but Samuel Merritt doesn't look at it all that strongly, but it is considered. I had planned on taking an introductory physics class next semester. I get the impression they would like the science background more than the physics. Thanks for the response to my post.

Hey Ramon,

I PM'ed you. Let me know if you don't receive it! Athlein

There are programs that dont' require the GRE Flying. There are still programs that are mostly university based that do require it. For the most part most programs don't see the GRE as a predictor of NA success. But the universities require it because they do for the other grad programs. If you want a list of programs that don't require the GRE Pm me.

Hi,

Can you send me a list of schools that dont require GRE. I am interested in Entry level Maters program. I have a BS in information systems and taking pre-reqs to get in the NP program.

Thanks-

Well this is not a comprehensive list but just the ones I know off the top of my head. If you want to know which ones I would go to the AANA website and research the schools sites, that's what I did when I was applying.

U of Buffalo, UMDNJ, Univ of Scranton, CSU-Fullerton, Minn School of Anesth., Univ Minnesota/VA, St. Mary's - there are more but you will have to look them up on your own.
