Salary???

Confused about pay in Home Health. I keep reading about pay per visit vs pay per hour, but what about salary? Does that mean no raises, OT, or other incentives? What is a good salary for a home health nurse? I assume a salaried position means that is it and all for the entire year no matter how much extra time is being put into your work...is this correct? Would salary be different for a weekend only position as opposed to weekday...should it be higher?

Please, if anyone can help get me straight on what salary means and what is an average for home health nurses I would soooooo appreciate it.

I used to be salary at a different agency. My base salary was $62K. There was pay above the base salary. Salary was not based on hours worked but on Visit Equivalents. I got paid $25 on call for a week day/night, $30 for a weekend day/night. Any visits above productivity expectations of 40 visit equivalents a week (mix is different based on type of visit: 2.5 VE for SOC, 2.0 VE for a ROC and a Recert, 1.5 VE for D/C and Routine visits), and any visits above the quota were paid an hourly equivalent rate called Bonus pay. It equated to about $29 per Visit Equivalent. Mileage was 0.44. Meetings and inservices were not paid extra, but counted as 1.0 VE, and were added to my productivity for the week, thereby reducing the number of visits required. They provided me with a cell phone with unlimited minutes which for the time I worked there I never had/needed a personal cell. After some time of working I pretty much worked about 32-35 hours a week as a "full time" salaried RN with extra pay for the aforementioned activities above. It was great! I was spoiled!

My new agency pays per visit. I am expected to see 25-35 visits a week, but as I am not salary or technically full time contracted, it all depends on how many visit there are. SOC's earn $65 (a total rip off if you ask me), and all other visits pay $45. There is extra pay for on call and there is no limit to the number of visits, so the pay is unlimited based on how much I want to work and how much work there is to be had. Meetings and such are paid hourly $28. Mileage is 0.42, and personal cell phone reimbursement is $30.

For those of you driving to home health visits, how are gas prices impacting you? Are you getting reimbursed enough for gas and milage for it to be worthwhile? What about when gas hits $5 a gallon, then what?

We only get 45 cents a mile, yes the gas prices are hitting hard. I even have a Prius and I am still feeling it. Not much I can do except really plan out my day and don't do alot of back and forth from different areas. Thinking about getting the electric prius when it comes out next year.

At my HHA you can choose to get paid hourly or paid per visit. I have been both and really don't notice much of a difference. I am currently paid per visit but really it is a cross between hourly and PPV. My hourly rate is 25.50. It's set up so that I get paid 1 visit equivalency (which is 1.5 hours) for each follow up visit (non OASIS and/or OASIS discharges) for OASIS SOC, ROC or Recerts I get paid for 2 visit equivalencies. Generally speaking I can't claim extra time because I am PPV but if there is a compelling reason or if I spent a significant amount of time on my days off replying to e-mails, making phone call etc... I will claim the time as an "other worked" which is paid on an hourly basis.

Also, I think our mileage reimbursement is about 45 cents per mile. When I have to rotate taking night time call it is 30/night + 70 per visit if I get called out. Overall I think it is fair but now that I finished my BSN I am thinking about asking for a raise. I think 25.50 is on the low end of what our nurses are being paid.
