Salary in Oz? The reef is calling.

Published

Hi guys,

I know this has been asked in the past but I can only find really old forum posts that are most likely out of date.

What is the starting rate for a new RN in Oz? I am a kiwi hoping to come and work over there for experience. :nurse:

My dream (whether its realistic or not Im not sure) Cairns or anywhere near the Great Barrier Reef for a short contract so that my partner can dive the great barrier reef! ;)

Thank you :)

it's different everywhere, depends on whether ur casual or not. it also depends on your level too.

full time nurses make between $50-$60k a year. fulltime, permanent nurses might earn between $27 - $30 per hour but that doesn't include your other shift pay. you also get your holiday pay on top of that. if ur casual with an agency, you get ur 20% loading so days could be about $36-40 per year, afternoon shift is about $42 per hour, nights and public holidays, anywhere from $50 - $60 per hour. all agencies pay differently, you would have to contact them yourself.

here's a list of some major nursing agencies you can contact:

Hi Misscherie, as you have mentioned the Great Barrier Reef, this is a link for Qld Health payrates. In fact, take your tine browsing the whole Work For Us site, there is some great info in there. When doing your research about where to work, take into account that private hospitals pay less than Qld health, & generally have greater nurse to Patient ratios.
