Salary in Houston, TX

I'm thinking about moving to Houston, TX but I've heard different things about RN salaries there. I don't want to move and find out that I can't support a family. I'm a BSN with 11 years experience and I've been a nationally certified WOCN nurse for 4 years . Any idea what salary to expect?

I had 30 yrs experience with about 16 yrs in the area I interviewed in and I was offered $44/hr in 2013 at Memorial Hermann downtown.  Plus I think it was 6 or 8% extra cuz it was downtown, I guess for the hassle, etc of working downtown.  I think they basically just look at your years of nursing experience, at least for staff nurses, but if I had stayed there and bought a house I totally could have lived well.  I'm single though so...but I really think you can do it.  The thing is I don't know how hiring is going now with Covid.

Thank you, that gives me a really good idea of what to expect. Houston looks to be pretty affordable so that might just be the place we end up.

I was a WOCN in Houston and averaged around $43/hr in 2019. And as Nunya said, the medical center downtown usually offers more. I have not seen a certified wound care nurse make less than $40/hr in the surrounding areas. Hope that helps!

hello, any update on this? I have an offer at baylors, did you finally moved to texas?

I am in Houston and a WOCN. Are you currently in a managerial role like a Coordinator or a wound care floor nurse?

no I was offered a job in CV telemetry floor... not sure yet if I want to pursue it.

Hi, I was just curious to see about how much averagely should a new grad with no experience expect? I am still looking around for jobs but have not had much luck. I would like something in the hospital setting, but am now considering other locations as well!
