Safe way of identifying pt when....

What's the safe way to identify pt when they are confused, or not capable to

give name and DOB?

Can I ask his/her family member in the room instead?

what are the safe identification methods other than name, DOB, med number?

I know we shouldn't use room number...

Asking for NCLEX purpose just to be sure with everything... thanks in advance.
