Hello everyone! Just starting a thread for SCC Fall 2024 RN program. Hope to hear from everyone applying!

Firstly, Congratulations! I remember when I got accepted and was so damn happy and anxious at the same time of whats to come. I'll just give you few things that I remember about first semester. Lectures were all in person until clinicals started, then it was primarily online through recorded Lectures. However, there were some in-person lectures sprinkled in. Even though many chapters will be assigned for readings your main goal will be focusing on the SLOs. Can you pass the exams if you just study the PowerPoints? Yes you can easily pass as long as you answer the SLOs, but anything goes from the material assigned, so sometimes there will be few questions that come from the book that are not on the PowerPoints. The key point will be learning the material, and then being able to critically think to answer the questions. So, it's less black and white meaning its not entirely memorization based. With the science classes there was usually one right answer that could be answered if you just studied and memorized, and with the nursing style questions it will be more of a "which is MOST correct" as many of the options can still be correct, just not the best option. Study tips would include using ChatGPT. Use GPT to make you many NCLEX styled nursing questions revolving the SLOs just so you can practice similarly worded questions over and over for that weeks exam. I wouldn't worry about pre-studying, but once you get the reading list at orientation spend some time jumping ahead for the first week. I wouldn't burn yourself out getting too far ahead, but you only know what works for you. Do not worry so much about the A&P, it's very useful in understanding things as you discuss things in lecture, but it will not play a huge role in your success in first semester.
Many people do work while doing the program, however a majority of them end up cutting their hours as things can start piling up quick, and TIME MANAGEMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Spend your time off getting all of your personal life in order so when the time comes your focus will primarily on school. Let all of your friends and family know that it's your time, and you'll see them during Winter break.
Also, if I can succeed, that means anyone can succeed. Just put the effort in.
Thank you! This is so helpful. I was accepted for Fall as well, and am surprised to hear that some lectures were online. I live an hour and 15 minute drive from SCC (without traffic) so I've been thinking I'd have to spend at least 2 1/2 hours a day, 5 days a week, driving to and from school... so that's actually a pleasant surprise. The info about studying is so helpful as well. Thanks again!

Congratulations to you as well! I forgot to mention the schedule for first semester was Tuesday-Friday. So you'll be driving four times a week in the beginning 🙂
@Wedd Sea Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. This is very helpful. I appreciate it ! I definitely will try to jump ahead since we have the whole Summer until program starts. I was very excited to get acceptance email and then anxiety kicked in 😂 It helps hearing from someone who already went through it.
