Sacramento City College New Selection Criteria

U.S.A. California

Published

i guess i just need a hand of encouragement at this point.

are any previous applicants no longer qualifying to apply to the scc nursing program due to the program criteria change? this would be my 4th time applying, finally i felt like i was going to make a dent in the amount of years that i have to wait to get into the program and bam - i'm hit with the new selection criteria and i no longer make the cut.

no i'm not a 4.0 student (3.2), i work in the healthcare field, got an 87 on my teas (which i realize isn't great - but it's not horrible), and am a 4th time applicant yet i'm still 1.5 points from making it into the application pool.

i have yet to find anyone else in my situation, and i congratulate anyone who is still able to make it into the pool now. i was just wondering what those who can no longer make it into the pool plan on doing for the future, since arc will be switching to this format next semester as well.

i haven't had a chance to go to any of the nursing sessions (i work fulltime days) i do however have a meeting with the nursing counselor this afternoon to talk about options (since we are no longer allowed to repeat classes in the los rios district). i understand that this is an impacted study/program - it has been long before i started my prereqs in 2007, but now i feel that my options are severely limited and i want to get the opinion of those in the same boat. also, i can't leave state, it's not an option, i have a family, and i'm just kind of bummed about the whole thing.

I too was .5 points from being able to apply to SCC which drove me nuts. Still drives me nuts. This is currently my 5th application to ARC, and I've known a few people there who got in after their 6th and 7th applications, so unfortunately I don't have my hopes up too high for being accepted into this round either. On the plus side, ARC is starting their own version of the points system next semester, but they are grandfathering those in who applied previously 5+ times into their top 30% of applicants and weighting it by your points. Hopefully sometime in the next year I'll get in. It's been a long road, and there are many days now that I consider just giving up my nursing goal and going off to do something else. Waiting 7 years to get an ADN isn't reasonable for anyone wanting to further their lives!

I wish you good luck in getting in this semester!!!

I know this forum is for Sac city, but has anyone heard back from ARC yet? I already got my news from Sac city =(... The ARC site said they would send letters 4-5 weeks from the cut off date, and it is almost 5!

Hey hopeful! I too got my rejection from SCC but have not heard from ARC...I am glad I am not the only one! I mean, we should hear really really soon. Like by Friday! This was my first time applying so I am hopeful, but trust me my hopes aren't up.

New potential ADN here. Im looking into the ADN program at Sac City and was wondering if anyone could PM me soon? I have plenty of questions about pre reqs, core reqs, online class options or ideas as to how to accelerate this process. Im a great student and dont think I will have any problems with sciences or math classes, however, after looking into this program it seems like time and patience is the greatest asset to get into this program. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I know its a little off topic, but I encourage you guys to apply at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, its a great program, not lottery, and take around 70 students each semester so your chance of getting in is high. Their admissions is based on grades for pre-reqs and TEAS score. If I remember correctly I only got 89 on the TEAS.

I got into Delta after being rejected twice at SCC and ARC, and I just took my NCLEX today =) So definitely check it out!

Due to budget cuts, Delta is only taking 40 students per semester... Their selection is merit-based; the first time they calculated my science GPA, (they assigned me a 3.07, I believe) I was alternate 10. When they re-calculated my GPA (3.71), I was given a spot. It is a good program and they do have the multi-criteria selection process.

As for SCC's lottery, I heard a rumor that there are tiers within their lottery selection. Don't quote me, but I heard that they choose the majority of their students from the top scores on the multi-criteria page and a few from the lower scores. The TEAS V scores may also be a part of how the applications are weighed in the lottery system.

I got into SCC on my first application with an 86% on the TEAS (which I think is awesome! Meaning, I didn't "only" get an 86%... I ROCKED an 86%!!!) and an overall multi-criteria score of 79.5...

I know SCC is doing the once-per-year selection in the spring, so they'll choose more students from one pool.

Are you close to getting an A.A./A.S.? That will give you 5 extra points... If you finished classes for that in the fall, you could meet the criteria!
