Sac State Fall 2013 Applicants

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am about to send in my application to CSU Sacramento for Fall 13 and was wondering if there are any other people in the same predicament. Would love love to hear your experiences as well.

Also, thanks Nurseinthemaking20 for filling us in. I wish I could go!

I guess this year you pretty much had to have a 4.0 on pre-reqs to get in. That's what I had as well. I got a 94 on the TEAS.

No problem! Let me know if you have any questions you want me to ask.

I had a 3.814 gpa, and a 92% TEAS score. I also got 3 points for being bilingual, which puts me right at the 75 mark.

Specializes in Neonatal, NICU level IV.

answers for scwolf:

1. Right now I'm wondering about housing advice. I'll be moving up from Santa Cruz.

Any areas to avoid? Any that are great?

Well the short answer is yes to both. Your budget is going to be a major deciding factor in where you can live as well. Also, whether you want a house, apt, duplex etc… will come in to play.

If you want to bike in you will be pretty much restricted to the downtown or arden area. There are a lot of areas close enough to bike form. If you want to PM me and give me some more details, I can be more specific (Streets, neighborhoods, culture etc..

2. I'll be living off campus with my husband (and cat). I'd love to be able to bike in, if possible. Does the supply of rentals get low in Aug? If we shoot for Aug. 1, for example.

It does get a little tough the closer school gets but there is usually always something available. I know people who found housing a week before school. I would start looking a little early to see what is out there.

3. Also, are there opportunities (either in the program or immediately afterward) for one-on-one preceptorships?

- Yes. During the 4th semester you will have a 1:1 preceptorship for 255 hours. You will work alongside a nurse and by the end of the rotation you will take on the entire patient load and the nurse will just be observing to ensure patient safety and to answer any questions you may have.

I also won't be a able to attend, but I wish I could! Thank you for offering to fill us in on everything, Nurseinthemaking20!

I am alternate #8 with 74 points so I guess I have a really good chance of getting in. :) I'm really happy, but to be honest I was totally not even planning on getting in at all!! So once i get in, I have to choose between CsuLB and Sac.

I grew up here so it's much more familiar to me, but I wanted to move to So cal too. Sac state is faster and will save me money, but now I'm really stuck. I'm grateful but what a dilemma! haha

@lilmissfit oh yeah you will definitely get in I would think if you're only alternate #8! Good for you. What a nice dilemma to be in though having to choose between 2 nursing schools!

Thanks so much, VintageSwagger. I will PM you about housing. I'm so excited about your answer to the preceptorship question, though. That's terrific! I know it will be challenging but I can't wait.

Anyone else completely nervous/terrified? I am so excited, however I'm not going to lie, I am scared. I'm just praying I will be able to manage with my three boys!! My husband is so supportive so I know it will be ok, but I am still nervous!

Mommato3crazies: It'll be tough, but I think we'll all do great. You've made it this far, and that alone is a huge accomplishment! :) I think you'll be able to manage!

Has anyone submitted their ITE yet? I'm dropping mine off tomorrow, along with the other required papers. Also, does anyone know specifically where the mail slot is in the building? Thank you in advance!

Thank you Kaylab for the encouraging words! When you walk in the nursing building the office is immediately to your right. Once inside there is a reception area and the mail slot is on left (at least that is where it was when I dropped off my app). I plan on dropping off my ITE tomorrow. I already did the one required module due the 8th, did you?

Thanks for the info about turning in the forms, I will probably try to make it to the meeting Friday so maybe I'll see some of you there.

On the ITE form, do you guys think they are asking about corequisites in progress too? Since the email we got on May 1 mentioned submitting final grades for any prerequisites and corequisites we have in progress. I'm wondering because I had completed the nursing prerequisites before applying but I have several corequisites in progress.
