Hi All!
I have just finished my prereqs at RVCC and plan to take the TEAS V on November 5th. I was wondering if anybody has completed or is currently enrolled in their nursing program and what you thought of it. Also, how long after you submit your application for clinicals are you notified if you're accepted or not. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Snoopy,
I am in my 2nd year of the program at RVCC. I heard in February-March through early acceptance that I was accepted into the program that was starting in September.
It's a tough program. I'm a older student with multiple degrees, but this is one of the hardest things I've done. Lots of studying, lots of work, and the tests are tough. I know that a lot of us had done very well in pre-reqs and the TEAS, but we're all working hard to stay in the program. As someone said "Bs are the new As."
You'll feel at times that they want you to drop/fail out because of all the academic/regulatory hoops you'll have to jump through. But hang in there!! You'll meet some great friends in your classes and you'll help each other out.
Good luck with our application. If you want to send me any msgs., feel free. We're all in this together. :)

]Thanks so much for your reply!! :) I was starting to get nervous. I am also a "mature" student with 2 kids and a full time job. I know it will be tuff trying to balance all of that but I am up for the challenge. I'll defininately cut my hours back and use the support of my family & friends. I have already made some great friends during my pre-reqs and we plan to help each other throughout the program. Thanks for your kind words and I look forward to speaking with you in the future.

I graduated from RVCC in August 2011 with my RN. If you can swing it - go for your BSN someplace locally.
Many of the local hospitals are only hiring BSNs at this point. Many of my peers are
suffering with finding a job because of this - and are ending up going for their BSN while they wait. Just
go to the hospital websites and see the job postings - BSN preferred, BSN required.
I regret not taking the time and going to a four-year school - in the end it is almost the same amount of time.
Most hospitals are now Magnet certified - and are required to have the majority of their nursing staff to have
advanced degrees.
On another note -- if you stay in this program I would highly recommend cutting your full-time hours
once you start your nursing classes. This is a very intense program - especially the 2nd year.
I too am was a mature student - with kids and all the home demands.....in the end I quit my job to
focus on my GPA and get through the program. Remember - you need a 75 to pass!! Not a 74.9 (believe me
there is no rounding up)
Good luck!

Hello everybody! Hope you guys are still visiting here. I am currently attending RVCC as a pre-nursing student. Speaking of RN-BSN, I'd like to know what their ranking system works.

Hello I applied for the nursing program starting this upcoming September. I'm extremely nervous...Does everyone if rvcc sends out non-acceptance letters as well as acceptance letters?
They definitely do. A friend of mine who DIDN'T get in said she got a letter that stated that she didn't get in, why, and broke down the scoring system. Not sure what the timing was for receiving the letter after she applied though. Good luck!!
I think the ranking system is GPA overall, GPA in both A&P 1&2, extra point if you took Micro or Chem, and then TEAS test. I think they look at math and reading (or something like that).
