Rush University GEM Fall 2018

Published

Hey! I just submitted my application for the fall 2018 GEM program at Rush, and I thought I'd start a new thread where applicants can compare stats, share thoughts, and/or ask questions.

I'm new here, but it looks like there's some great information in previous GEM threads. If the timeline is the same as last year's, interviews should take place in early February 2018, and decisions should be made by early March. For what it's worth, it looks like several people received invitations for interviews at Rush within 48 hours after their application status changed to "verified" on the NursingCAS portal last year.

Best of luck everyone! Going to go collapse now

I believe as well.

Waitlisted! Can ppl accepted post their stats?

I definitely will post my stats. I will post them Saturday. I am at work right now on my phone. It will be easier to do it on my laptop and also make certain that I am entering the correct info.

Hey! Does anyone know how deep they went into the waitlist last year? I'm in the mid-20s, not sure if I should be hopeful or not.

I believe at the first look they said last fall they ended up going 40 deep (someone correct me if i'm wrong) which was higher than normal. I think they said for fall usually 15-30 or something like that. Best of luck to you!

Hmm, okay stats.

Bachelor of Science: Criminal Justice and Psychology

Degree GPA - 3.3

Prereqs - 3.5

I worked 3 years as a CNA, 1 year as a chiropractic aide, 2 years managing a chiropractic office, and 1 year managing a stem cell therapy clinic. Volunteer work; 6 months in a pediatric oncology ward doing crafts and activities with patients, 1 year overseas in Madagascar (teaching English, working in a women's prison, assisting with a medical clinic to isolated villages), 1 year as an advocate for a sex trafficking hotline, 1 year as a domestic violence counselor for the LAPD.

References: A & P professor, Emergency services coordinator from when I was domestic violence counselor, Doctor I worked with at the chiropractic office.

In my interview I stressed my commitment to and passion for community outreach and service. And laid out my longterm goal of working(as a nurse) for Doctors Without Borders.

Still can't believe I got in. I thought my GPA would be too low.

Stats:

Undergraduate GPA 3.83

Prerequisites GPA 3.75 (I only made one B)

Volunteered over two years at a children's hospital.

Recommendations came from the Director of volunteers for the children's hospital, and two recent professors.

I believe that RU was looking for individuals involved in their community. It seemed to be a stressing point for.them.

Specializes in ICU.

I was also accepted! Looking forward to meeting everyone in the cohort this fall-- best of luck to everyone on the waitlist!

I see for past cohorts FB groups were set up. Is that done by the school or is that done by the students?

I think they're done by students!!

Would anyone here be interested? I can set it up or if someone else wants to, that is great too.

If you do not mind, I would be happy if you.set it up. Thank you for offering and thinking.of this.
