Rush GEM Fall 2012

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else out there has applied to the Rush GEM program for the Fall 2012 (September) start date. I already had my interview and am anxiously waiting to hear something from the school! At the "First Look" session they had, I heard from one of the current students that the application pool was really competitive this year. Anyone else hear something like this? Yikes!

Anyone else out there to chewing their nails waiting?

Thanks for the information, Dana! I think I'm going to use Rush employee health when I get to Chicago in early August. That sounds way easier. I've been looking at stethoscopes, etc and getting an idea of what I want. But, I'm going to wait too. I heard from students at other schools that they have company reps that offer student pricing. I would imagine Rush would do the same. Now just have to be patient until Aug 27, which is hard since I've been working toward this for 3 1/2 years...

i will be living in the university apartments - i was in town a few weeks ago to check them out, as well as other non-university options, but decided to go with this until i know chicago a bit better / neighborhoods i'd like to live in. they allow students to sign leases by term so it was the right fit for now.

thank you for the employee health center info as well, dana. i have had my titers/tdap done recently, but will wait until i get to chicago to get my TB-Quantiferon since trying to squeeze in another dr's appointment after august 1st and before moving is a bit difficult.

hope everyone is enjoying the summer before we're all back in full-on school mode :)

Hello and congratulations to my fellow Fall GEM cohort comrades! I posted the same day you did, Genevieve, just realized now that nothing was saved on this thread.

I am planning on attending the Faculty Tea in August, so hopefully I'll get to meet some or most of you then!

Hi everyone!

I was accepted into the Rush GEM for Fall 2012 as well! I've been trying to figure out who else was accepted and stumbled upon this site. Is there a Facebook group? I currently live in the Darien, a suburb of Chicago, but I was going to move downtown for the fall. Is anyone else looking for apartments down there? I'm excited to meet everyone! Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! :yelclap:

I have been accepted at DePaul for their MENP starting this fall and I was also wait listed at Rush for the fall GEM program. I have an automatic acceptance for the January start date for Rush (which they call "spring" for some reason) if I don't come off the fall wait list. If I had my choice, I really want to go to the Rush program, but I am pretty high up on the ranked list (currently #17 after initially being around 35). Do I stand a chance of coming off the wait list in time for the fall program to start? The email I got a few weeks ago with my updated ranking at Rush said they take people from the list up to August 27th. Even though I already sent in a deposit for the January class I am now reconsidering because I do not want to wait until January to start so am considering just going to DePaul instead (unless I can get off the wait list).

Anyone know if I have a chance of making it off the list in time for fall? Or do I just give up on Rush and go to DePaul instead?

So I called the nursing school today and asked about coming off the waitlist but they said they couldn't tell me one way or other because they will admit people up to the end of the first day of the orientation. The girl I talked to said they were still taking people off the list, so I guess theres still a chance but I think I might just go to DePaul after all since I already have a spot in the fall session. I don't want to have to rush around trying to get all my things in order if I do end up getting accepted at Rush and only have a few days...
