Hey all, anyone else applied to Rush for this fall? I just applied at the Feb 1 deadline for PMHNP, but I have no idea how their timelines work other than the app deadline has passed. Anyone else out there part of this process? Would love to stress with you! ?
I agree with AANP, my nursing GPA is not a whopping 3.8 or 4.0. I feel that they look at your experience (I have 5 years of inpatient experience; 3 different inpatient units, all of which had intensive psych sub-units, and well as current Psych ED experience), as well as your answers to essay questions, my interviewer spent some time discussing my answers to the 3rd interview question - research project ideas etc.

How many years have most of you all been working in psych as RN's before applying? I remember it was hard to find statistics of previous cohorts as far as GPAs, experience etc. They made it seem like I was a good candidate though. They fooled me..
I have a little less than 2 years of experience in nursing. After getting my RN license 2 years ago I went directly into Public Health Nursing working along side Child Protective Services performing screenings for infants and toddlers that have experienced trauma. I also have been working at a Psych facility for 3 months on the weekends as a Supervisor, volunteer as a mentor for nursing students and do presentations at the University. I have a 3.5 GPA.
I started school later in life so I am also getting older, but the point is to never give up on what we set out to accomplish. We will get to where we want to be no matter how many no's we get ?

I was thinking that as well. That and having the critical one year experience.

Is anyone not from Illinois that did get in? I have another thought about those that were waitlisted/denied being further than bordering states. They might not want to deal with people so far away (>1000 miles). I was told last year that they had no contacts near me, but that it was fine , they make the calls, but the student usually finds someone they want to work with..
I could be wrong if any of you guys are across the country. I'm thinking location might matter more than the school let's on now that the Sawyer initiative is in play and gaining momentum.

I got in! I only have a 3.5 GPA from
my BSN. I think they focus a lot on extracurricular activities and work experience.
