Hey all, anyone else applied to Rush for this fall? I just applied at the Feb 1 deadline for PMHNP, but I have no idea how their timelines work other than the app deadline has passed. Anyone else out there part of this process? Would love to stress with you! ?

When I applied for Rush, I also applied for UM-Flint. You should look into their program because it is pretty similar just takes a bit longer to complete.
Yeah I have some other schools and states I'm looking at, I was just so set on Rush and ready to get a move on I'm gettin' old! How many years have most of you all been working in psych as RN's before applying? I remember it was hard to find statistics of previous cohorts as far as GPAs, experience etc. They made it seem like I was a good candidate though. They fooled me..
Long-time lurker on here.
I was accepted to the MSN-DNP PMHNP program (post-APRN)! Are there any other MSN-DNP students? I know this is a BSN-DNP forum but these things tend to attract pretty much everybody from all variations.
Congrats to those who have been accepted and best of luck to those waitlisted/didn't get in. I can tell you from personal experience being rejected from every single graduate program I applied to (non-nursing related) about 10 years ago that it's not the end of the road!
Also, to the poster who had a concern about not having enough RN experience - don't let that keep your confidence down. I went straight into an MSN FNP program from my accelerated BSN program. I can tell you that level of RN experience is not necessarily a deal-breaker at top tier programs - it just varies from school to school. I can tell you that Hopkins, Columbia, Penn, and Vanderbilt don't require any previous experience. I think previous life experience and any volunteer/health-related work experiences, letters of rec, essay, and interview matter more. It also highly depends on what type of setting you hope to work in. My peers who had 10 years of experience in med-surg feel similarly to me as an FNP with no RN experience working in the primary care setting. Of course, any experience is a huge benefit and can't be discounted -- but it's not the end-all-be-all. If you're hoping to work as an APRN in an inpatient unit - sure; psych RN experience will be hugely beneficial. It's just all dependent on the environment you want to work in and, honestly (more importantly), it's just about what you yourself want to do with your life. This is the beauty of nursing. There are so many fields you can work in as a nurse. You don't have to work in the hospital; this doesn't make or break your stake in the profession. Best of luck to you!
